Ever been? I heard they have a decent sports bar. None of that stuff existed last time I was living in Sugarland. It used to be the grass field where they held the carnival every year. Now there is a big ass hotel, and city hall, and town center. I went to Penisons today to watch the Astros game, but I plan on making it to the Town Center in the near future to see what it's like. I've heard good things about it. Anyone else out there live in Sugarland?......and what do you think of the new TownCenter area off of HW6?
I think it's a cluster****. The mall and movie theater already drew enough traffic to that area, but as if that wasn't enough they decided to go ahead and build city hall and a whole bunch of new restaurants and stores into a very small area. Good thinking Sugarland. I hate driving down 6 at any time during the day now.
I avoid 6 as much as I can. I'm in New Territory right now, but I take the UH university Blvd to 59 and that to the area around 6. I have never been to the town center. It looks like a really nice area. A place like this can draw traffic away from Houston now that the stores are locating out at the suburbs people don't have to drive to the galleria etc. So I am a complete supporter of the new towncenter area etc. It's pretty neat that they built it as a outdoor walking area too, wrather than a car area. I saw families watchign an aminated Dinsey movie outdoors at the towncenter (along the town hall) last Sat. It was sponsored by Sugarland TC. Anyways, I haven't been in there yet. It looks nice, and I am thinking of heading there. I was just wondering if there were any bars worth heading to (specifically sports bars to watch games).
I think it looks cool..I liket he whole walking thing but its not a place that I would go too often because theres mostly restaurants and such but meh dont know much about the bars but they added the cheesecake factory recently and while its expensive as hell the cakes are awesome
Up, what's up? Your folks live in New Territory? Mine too. That's funny weird. It'd be really funny if they lived in the same subdivision. Anyways, i'm real busy the next two weeks with you know what (i'll probably do an announcement post here sometime soon just to say thanks to all for the entertainment that will have to be majorly cut down soon). I don't even know if I can log into chat next year because of how busy i'll be. Have a good summer man.
You too man. This month is my month off. I'm normally really busy but I always try to make my 2 hours free when the Rockets play, hence why my dorky ass is always in chat. My parents have a house in Fosters Green in NT. I'll be back in College Station shortly, I'm about to move into another house. I'm currently in SugarLand trying to find somethign fun to do. I've been to 4 Astros games in the last week (their last home streak). Sorry to hear you're so busy now. Don't work too hard man!
damn, we went loitering around and even went up the elevators and stuff... sucks to be you. oh we did this at 2 am btw.
Sugar Land's a nice little place, and Town Center is definitely nice - decent restaurants, really fills up at night, but I really hope this isn't the beginning of Houston's transformation into a suburb-infested metro.
I lived in Houston from 1981-1989 and 1995-2004, and I only made it to Sugarland three times, for 2 indoor soccer games and an MS150 warmup ride. Is there even a night life there?
There are plenty of nice restaurants in Houston. PF Changs and Cheesecake Factory are not among them. The traffic on HWY6 is so atrocious, and the miles of strip malls are so ugly, that I rarely visit my parents there anymore.
Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of it. I can't stand Dallas because that's pretty much what all of Dallas looks like. PF Changs, Cheesecake, etc... are decent places to eat. There's thousands of better options in the city, but if you live out there, they're affordable and predictable...so, not terrible. I should also clarify. Town Center fills up at night, but I think most of the people are just high school-age kids eating/hanging out at Starbucks. There's a Baker St. location in there too, but eh...yeah, still no nightlife.
There's also a nice Marriott there. I like the area and hwy 6 doesn't bother me at all. Here's some more info: http://www.sugarlandtx.gov/content/Sugar_Land_Town_Square_Article.htm
Well, close enough. My parents live in Lakewind, right next door, and I have a couple of friends from high school whose folks still live in Fosters Green. I'm moving into Sundance Apartments across from the Tap with my wife-to-be. As for the towncenter, I think it's nice. Sugar Land is weird. Most cities up on the east coast (smaller older suburban cities) started off with a old town or town center (like europe) and then expanded outwards. Sugar Land started off as a whole bunch of nice neighborhoods with big houses that became attractive for the upper middle class and higher because of the exclusivity of it, the rising land value, and the chinese filled excelling public education. Back in 1997, Ft Bend County was the 2nd fastest growing in the U.S. And then built inwards a towncenter that's new, but with old town style buildings. Anyhow, Sugar Land was always into look standards for the shops and stuff, though I don't like the phony poshness of the area (that style is just so fake), compared to what i've seen around the world. It's still better than the endless non-zoned strip mall crap along the entire HW6 north of Sugar Land. I don't care for zoning too much, but man that crap is just so ugly, and I guess if that's all you know growing up (I'm talking about Htown west..Alief, HW6, etc), then I guess it's okay, but in my last 7 years of travels, my eyes have been so opened to how cities can be so beautiful in so many different ways of planning and architecture. Sugar Land is by no means an award winning city in that department, but at least it's nicer than the area of Htown between loop 610 and beltway 8 and out a little. And it's not as bad as the subarbs super outlet area of Katy Mills and north Dallas. When all is complete, you should be able to park your car and have within walking distance, numerous, shops, a mall, doctors offices, dental and vision places, movie theaters, caffees, bars, etc. The traffic is a total mess, but hopefully one day the construction will be finished. And for those who live in and around SugarLand, they can enjoy a complete towncenter that somewhat has a old country/european feel to it plus the conviences of driving back home close by to your house and land.
Town Center is alright. There's some nice restaurants but not really any places to shop. It'd be better if parents didn't drop their pre-teen and middle school kids there every night loitering the place.
I try to man. My parents moved to Sugar Land in '85 and I've been living there until '03 when I moved to Austin to go to UT in '03.
