I just read an article (I couldn't get the link to work, otherwise I would have posted it) saying that Yao has to give 30% of his earnings (salary and all endorsements) that he will make next year to the Chinese Basketball Association and another 20% to the Chinese government. That's 50% of his salary gone. The article also said that it is unclear if that is before or after the US government has already taken its share of Yao's salary. Apparently this rule only applies to athletes playing overseas. That pretty much blows. I wonder if he can get around that by declaring himself a US citizen.
