It might be old, but people still flock to Subway. Everytime i go, there is at least 5-8 customers in line. And that breakfast sub does look tasty. I'm getting a foot long. (TWSS!)
I've been wanting to try Subway's breakfast for months but haven't had the chance. I usually don't eat breakfast except on long road trips and I make those long before Subway is open. They look good in pictures.
Most Subways I go to for lunch are packed. I've been to a couple that had at least 15 people in line. It must be those $5 footlong subs.
I go to Subway at least 2-3 times a week for lunch, and unless I get there right around 11am, there's always a line of at least 8-10 people. Every single time.
You have to know the right ones. There is on in Bryan, TX with nobody ever in it. I even have a place in Houston... at lunch!
I've pretty much stop eating from Subway. Their sandwich totally gross you out when you finish eating it. I preferred Quizno. They need to introduce some Vietnamese Bánh mì sandwiches into their menu. I wished I work near this vietnamese restaurant because they serve this amazing Bánh mì for like only $3 and it's one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten.
while i agree with you that banh mi is indeed a top-rate sandwich (for $2.75 at les givral :grin: ) i completely disagree that places like subway should start serving it. a) they would butcher it and b) it's probably still be more expensive than those you can find at vietnamese joints. and how does subway 'gross you out' afterwards? if it does that it's only because you're ordering something gross to begin with. and quiznos sucks.
You right about banh mi and Subway is a bad idea. But my problem with Subway have always been they are pretty cheap on the meat and get gross out by their bread. Another thing is their it's their sauces. I can't never get the right sauces for my sandwich. I mean they should at least have a pattern down sauce for each type of sandwich but they don't. So most of the time you either mix the wrong sauce or too less or too much totally make it taste nasty. As for quizno, it might not be that great but they know how to fill up your sandwich with lots of meat and I like their bread.
When I was in Australia back in 2000, the Subway in Canberra near where my student group would meet up every day had breakfast. I remember getting some kind of ham and egg sandwich, don't remember what kind of bread except that it was a bun and not an english muffin or a biscuit or anything. Also, they cooked the egg by cracking into one of those circle things like McDonald's uses but then they microwaved it since they don't have a grill to cook on.
Aren't most working people in the morning super busy? I barely have enough time to wake up, get ready and grab a protein bar or piece of fruit before I head out. I can't fathom the idea of walking into a Subway to order food for breakfast. Too damn time consuming. Furthermore, If the breakfast competition alone isn't hard enough... the lack of drive-thru is going to kill Subway on this idea. Stick to what you're good at. $5.00 foot long subs for lunch/dinner time.
When it comes to going into a place to get food, Subway is as quick, if not quicker than any other fast food joint. A few of them have drive-thrus, too.
I've never seen a subway with a drive thru before but that's beside the point. We're talking about the laziest country in the world where drive-thrus and fast food go hand & hand especially in the mornings. What's next? Fresh brewed coffee? Hash browns? Breakfast value meals?
This is something I wondered about myself. I think a drive-thru especially becomes important when you're rushing to get to work, drop the kids off at school, etc. The thing is, like DonnyMost said, most Subways are quicker than a McDonald's Burger King or whatever drive-thru but as you said people don't look at it that way, they still see the drive-thru as the quickest method available. It's a tricky slope but I wish Subway success.
