We still have to find a better way to be the fronting defense. it's no surprise to see svg employ this tactic since he IS the brother of jvg. i have a simple play dialed up that would work, and seeing i'm no coach i'm sure adelman would recognize this too. have the pg at the top of the key and the sg on yao's side. have the sg cut baseline while yao screens the sg's defender. this should be a money alley-oop play at least once. it's really hard to defend since yao simply takes two defenders out of the play because one's fronting him and one is being screened. and assuming we have good spacing on the floor, this should be an easy alley-oop for 2 points.
We should just let Yao push them further out of position instead of trying to get the ball , then he can get all the offensive rebounds he wants. The others need to attack the basket.
i am not concerned as much now, we got 2 more offense options that can hurt the other team if they front yao and leave the baseline open
I think when Yao gets fronted, the pass should go to the baseline instead of towards the basket. Once the trap comes from weak side help, have the open man cut to the basket for the easy layup or kick it out to an open shooter.
there was one play at the end when rafer missed his floater and since dwight was fronting yao, yao was able to tip the ball in easily. maybe thats a good strategy, have rafer taking floaters
there is some sense in it because floaters give you a short rebound and Yao can get that because of the inner position
It would work for most centers, but that is difficult for Yao because he lacks the lateral quickness. On top of the there is always weak side helper to cover Yao when he receive that lob pass.
U can't get any easier than that. Yao gets his spot, they front, reverse ball, yao with his arms up, swings left leg to middle of key to seal, easy pass and score.
it worked once, and failed another time... so 50% success rate...lol....but u r right, it's a bit of high risk to do that for yao cuz he is kinda slow. u dont want to do that too often in key time cuz it has a high chance for a turnover.
An idea that seems like it would work is have Brooks take his man off the dribble. The center, who is stuck in front of Yao can't go to contest the shot. If the man on the opposite side swings over, then kick the ball out for a 3.
for every move (i.e., fronting) there is a counter move. all good counters in this thread. the key is execution. jvg's team didn't execute well enough. see if adelman's team can do better with countering the fronting defense. the first interesting game will be with nellie's worriors, which is coming up soon enough.
