If yao managed to get up 16 shots he'd have 40 points

Amare should get ROY. He is definitely for real and straifght out of highschool. I love Yao, but he is gonna take at least til next year to become more acquainted to the NBA game. Stoudamire is just ready and seems to fit in so easily. If Amare does not win, i will be very surprised.

Amare Stoudemire is not as good as Yao Ming, on either end of the floor.

Especially on defense, the difference is astounding.

Duncan scored 38 on Amare alone.

Duncan and DRob only combined for about 30 on Yao.

    It is not even close.

whether Yao gets ROY or not, it does not matter really. He will eventually be the dominant force in the middle. I'm just saying Amare will most likely win it. It doesn't mean Amare is better than Yao all around.

I find it amusing that everyone is making a big deal about his jump from HS to pro and comparing him to others that have made this jump. Most that make the comparison between others that have made the jump don’t consider that Kobe didn’t turn 20 until the summer after his second year.

This really doesn’t take anything away from how good Stoudamire really is it just gives a better perspective.

    You are amusing.

    1. Duncan was defended by Scott Williams most of the time and David Robinson by Amare.

    2. Nobody is stopping Duncan 1on1, he got 38 points because it was an OT game and he got 8 or so in OT and because the double teams of Marion, Jacobsen were not aggresive enough.

    3. Amare rejected Duncan twice

    4. Duncan couldn't stop Amare on the other end

Watch some games before you make ridiculous comments

Who cares if he is 20 or 19 in his rookie season? Fact is he played only 2 years highschool basketball and is already a top PF in the league.

Slin, sorry to burst your bubble. I just checked espn, Duncan played 51mins in the game while Williams played 25mins.

BTW, Amare is damn good, probably better than Ming at this point offensively. But somehow I have a feeling the Rockets with Yao Ming will break the hearts of Suns' fans again and again down the road just like what Hakeem's team did when Suns also had the best PF.

Of course Williams didn't play 51 minutes like Duncan but he was his defender in the starting lineup.

Combine Williams, Voshkuls and Outlaws numbers and they add up.

Duncan had a very good game but nothing special really, his assists were so high because his teammates scored when he passed it out of the post and and 38 points aren't really specialy for a MVP candidate, especially in 51 minutes.

Amare more than held his own against Duncan in every aspect. That's why Duncan gave him high 5 after the game.

Yao should win it cuz the transition from China to the NBA is much more difficult than High school to the pros. Yao not only had to get aquainted with the style of game played here, he had a whole different culture and language barrier to deal with too.
Plus the NBA might jsut give him the award to get him more publicity in China. More publicity means more fans, which translates into more money for the NBA.

I think it will be very close. Yao is the better overall player, but the impact that Amare is making is just too great to ignore. To say that Yao will win it and it wont even be close is ridiculous. I think if the award were given out right now, it would be 50/50. The suns are on fire and a big reason for that is Stoudemire's play.

Kilgore Trout, it doesnt matter that Amare is 20 and that the likes of Kobe did not turn 20 until their second year. Coming from High School to the Pro's is a HUGE jump regardless of age. Age does not matter at all because the High School game and the NBA are leagues apart.

If Amare wasn't match-ed up on Duncan that does say something about the Phx coaches belief that Amare is an ace defender. If he was match-ed up with him on the defensive side--he certainly was abused on that end of the court. Not that getting abused by Duncan means you are a bad player, Elton Brand usually gets abused by TD as well. TD and Shaq (who Yao will get soon) are the toughest guys in the league to match-up with defensively.

Right now Yao should be a neck ahead of Amare in the ROY race--Yao has the edge because of blocks and shooting/FT%. Doesn't mean that can change.

Best case scenario for Amare is he is another Karl Malone. Best case scernario for Yao is he is another Kareem. Yao has more upside for potentially being THE dominant player in the game.

Offensively Ming is one of the best around the basket players. Amare relies too much on dunking and lay-ups to be considered a "great" offensive player. If Ming had the amount of shots that Amare has been given, then maybe he would be scoring 30 points more often.

If anyone had seen the Indiana game, they would know that Ming has more moves than Dunking and laying it in.

    Shanghi Shake baby!
