Anyone else watch this show? I'm sure most of it is staged... but what I don't understand is, how can so many valuable items be in a storage shed to begin with. Do the owners of the storage shed die or something and their families don't know the value that they had in storage? I find it hard to believe this is so common. Anyone have comments on this? I would like to rest peacefully tonight with the answer.
I can't explain why, at all, but I am totally addicted to the show. Every time I catch one of those Storage Wars marathons, I watch every episode... even the ones I've already seen. With that being said, I ask the same question every time I watch it.
I really enjoyed this show when it first debuted, but I've grown tired of it. All of the main "characters" on the show are unlikeable. Dave is obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious. The fights between Jarrod and his wife make them hard to watch and would it kill Darrell to wear a shirt that has sleeves? On second thought, Barry isn't too bad I guess, but still, I don't watch anymore.
I like Barry, he's a riot. But yeah if Jarrod acts like that to Brandi in real life then I'm surprised she hasn't left him yet. Dave and Daryl are both asses, but if they weren't I probably wouyldn't watch. I dunno if it's staged, but at the very least they must film them going to dozens of auctions and edit it down to the few that actually yield something of value. I loved the episode where that Mark guy, flashing a lot of cash, overspent on a unit and found an old NES, without it's original packaging. He thought he was gonna bank 10K only to found out it didn't even work and was worth around 10 bucks. Complete idiot.
I wen through a phase with that show but have cooled off. I like Barry... A couple of friends do that kind of thing locally. One of their friend but a locker for $110 and found $10,000 of jewelry secreted away in some drawer of a bedside table. It happens.
One of the previous posters made a great point that I think answers the OP's big question. The ratio of lockers they bid on versus the number they show on air is probably astronomical. I'd also imagine that many of the lockers go unpaid because the owners simply forget about them to some degree. Anyone who has thousands of dollars worth of valuables tucked away in some locker is likely pretty well off.
I watched the show for a bit, but Darrel is hard to watch. He's just so dumb that it's beyond the point comedic value. His son is almost as douchy as him. Be probably shouldn't have reproduced.
Unlike Auction Kings and Pawn Stars, this show is way too make believe for my liking when it comes to valuing their finds. I'm okay with getting something appraised and showing it on tv, but I'm very annoyed with Dave or whoever starts going through a find and just throws out values like that's liquid cash in front of him. "This is $100, this is worth $1,000, oh, here's $2,000." Then at the end of the show they show some onscreen calculation of purchase price and then some imaginary lot value. That's total BS. Yeah, I watch the show.
that's what i always think. Dave doesnt want to look like an ass for overpaying for a locker, so he overprices old crap that he finds. "This 1980's washing machine: $100. This random gravy boat: $85." I like the show though.
I still don't know if Darryl is saying "Wow factor" or "Wild factor". My roommate and I had many arguments over this. Can anyone clarify?
I thought for a while that a lot was staged. Then I watched a couple of those specials with them all at a poker table in Vegas and it was so obvious how much everyone TRULY hated Dave Hester. Not just business dislike or friendly dislike, but HATE. I'm convinced it's not staged now. Someone else already mentioned that there are likely a bunch of auctions that get filmed and never see television. Also, as far as people leaving valuables in their locker, this has actually been addressed on the show to some degree. They mentioned that sometimes it is the owner dying, but sometimes they just get behind a little on payment. As soon as they are late on payment the storage facility will lock them out of their unit until they catch up. Even if they've got $10,000 in dollar bills in the locker, they can't get in there to retrieve it and pay their bill, so it goes up for auction. Pretty messed up. And Jarrod doesn't bother me. I feel like the arguments with him and Brandi are more playful than real. She's way, WAAAYY too hot to put up with that stuff if Jarrod was genuinely being confrontational.
Yes! Great point. That has always bothered me as well. I've always been curious to see how much of that stuff sits collecting dust in his shop for months on end.
My friend watches this show a lot, it's really easy to make fun of, so I guess that's what is has going for it.
I watch this show too...I like Auction Hunters better, but they are coming out with a SW: Texas...it looks dumb and makes Texans look hillbillyish...
