first off, im disappointed we lost the game, but has anybody else noticed how well steve plays vs the kidd ? Do you think steve rises to the level of the competition or his quickness is giving kidd fits ?
Kidd is quick, but at his size, im sure there are ten pg's quicker.

Anybody have the cumulative head to head stats ? im sure steve compares favorably.

btw, before tonights' game i would have still made the vancouver trade, and i know you don't go by one game, but i think this game reaffirms it, even though the rockets lost.

Here's the breakdown. They've only faced each other twice. Francis was injured for the 2nd Phoenix game. You'll see that Steve scores much more and Kidd rebounds better. Steve's turnovers are also much higher. Also, note that Kidd plays about 10 minutes a game more than Stevie.

    Francis
    Min/Game: Francis 37, Kidd 47
    FG%: Francis (23-41) 56.1%, Kidd (9-28) 35%
    3FG%: Francis (9-15) 60%, Kidd (3-5) 60%
    FT%: Francis 1-2 50%, Kidd (11-12) 92%
    Reb/game: Francis 5.5, Kidd 10
    Ast/game: Francis 9, Kidd 9.5
    stl/game: Francis 2.5, Kidd 3.5
    to/game: Francis 5.5, Kidd 2.5
    blk/game: Francis .5, Kidd 1
    pts/game: Francis 28, Kidd 16

Here's the numbers per 48 minutes:

    reb/48min: Francis 7.13, Kidd 10.21
    ast/48min: Francis 11.67, Kidd 9.7
    stl/48min: Francis 3.24, Kidd 3.57
    to/48/min: Francis 7.13, Kidd 2.55
    blk/48min: Francis .648, Kidd 1.02
    pts/48min: Francis 36.32, Kidd 16.34

You forgot to include the number of times St. Francis broke Kidd's ankles. [IMG]

Just the mere fact that we are even comparing a Rockets' PG numbers to Jason Kidd's is something we would not have dared to dream of a year ago...

    OMG~!

It's going to be a natural maturation of Steve for his turnovers to decrease. He'll begin to make smarter decisions with the ball. I was duely impressed last night by his performance, did you see him catch the alley-oop from shandon?! ooh. He's obviously better at scoring than kidd, and he's not far behind in assists when it comes down to playing as many minutes as Kidd. I hope he plays smart, and keeps himself from getting injured. I'm sure that we have a diamond here, and he will lead us to a championship someday. Maybe sooner than Kidd will lead the suns.

Any chance in hell Stevie would play the two spot? Does anybody see why this would be a good thing for him and the team? I want Stevie to play the point, but he turns the ball over too much to be a point guard. Statistics are misleading at times, but look at the difference in the assist to turnover ratio between Kidd and Francis.
I keep saying it because nobody has responded to it, but I really think that we need to make room for a veteran point guard on our roster. Somebody that can teach Stevie the finer things about point play. Who's out there that y'all would like to see in a rockets uniform? Last year Dereck Harper motivated the hell out of Derick Fisher. Fisher lost playing time for his errors, and he got better. I'm not advocating a move for Harper (he's older than the stuff dirt's made of), but that's a case in point. Anyway, what's the rest of the BBS think?

    Pass 1st:
I agree that I would like to see Francis get some work at the 2. I noticed last night when moochie played that Stevie did play the 2.
But I guess with our current roster he is the point. We do have bodies who can play the 2/3 positions (Anderson/Mobley), however I wouldn't be against trading or picking up a pass 1st PG to get Stevie more minutes at the 2 next year.

I saw one major difference in the two, it looks like Kidd gets all the calls. It is not like Steve is shy going to the hole. Once Steve gets on the refs side, his steals should go up and maybe TO down too (i.e., benfits concerning reach ins and incidental contact at both sides of the ball).

I think steve may have alot of defensive problems if he played the 2. not only is he 3 inches shorter then your avg. 2, he's a good 15 pounds lighter also.

as far as TO's go, I think that kinda stuff comes with age and experience. steve has never played pg before, whereas kidd has played it all his life. I think francis is still in the experimental stages of playing this position, and i think he will evolve into a premier pg. besides, did kidd or payton have alot of TO's in their rookie year ?
