The west is loaded at the guard positions. I mean, look at this:

    Blazers: Roy
Clippers: Cassell (OK, just for the sake of tinman :) )
    Hornets: Paul
    Jazz: Williams
    Kings: Martin
    Lakers: Bryant
    Mavs: Howard
    Nuggets: Iverson
    Rockets: McGrady
    Sonics: Durant
    Spurs: Parker/Ginobili
    Suns: Nash
    Warriors: Davis

Only the Grizzlies and the TWolves don't have a marquee guy at the backcourt.

exactly, this isn't even worth debating. you hate to be forced to criticize such a great player but over reaching statements will force you to do that.

    to the original post:

    Minnesota: 7-34
    Boston: 33-7

and taking nash over duncan b/c duncan needs someone to get him the ball is about as ludicrous as it gets. that eliminates every great center in history from the discussion of best players ever, even though there are probably 5 centers in the top 8 players.

nash is good, about as good as it gets offensively. but he isn't the best in the league overall. paul, james, kobe, wade (when healthy), duncan, and kg are better at least. and he got to the WCF w/o amare by beating the 6 and 7 seeds in 7 game series. not like they were up with the elite that year.

Josh Howard is not a guard. He plays the small foward position.

Memphis has Gay. I wouldn't consider him top tier but I do consider him better than Durant at this point (who you listed)...

He's not under-appreciated. He was under-appreciated when he was with the Mavs, not now.

The fact that he has two MVPs and that people are starting to actually think he's as good as John Stockton was tells me he's quickly moving towards over-rated. Actually, he may've gotten there already.

Why does no one ever remember that the guy can't guard a chair?

did kobe have 2 great players and depth besides himself when he lost the first round?

nash does bring everything great, but for few years now, he couldn't bring enough to make the suns into the finals. he has amare and marion. he has great role players in raja bell, barbosa, and diaw. that team imo, has been under achieving in the post season.

Without Amare, Nash and the Suns took Dallas to 7 games in the WCFs two years ago. I don't think Nash is the best player in the NBA, but he's the best PG even when you include his poor defense. If Chris Paul continues improving and starts dominating on a regular basis, he will surpass Nash.

Yeah, I agree on that one. He is a great player, but if you look at the greatest players in NBA history most of them where good defenders, not necessarily great, but good on both ends of the floot.

Another thing to look at, look at the 10 greatest PGs of all time and compared them to the 10 greatest Centers of all time.

The matchup very heavily favors the centers, since the 10 to 12 best centers of all time are mostly in the top 20 players of all time.

Nash is not the kind of player is the same league with Shaq, Magic, Bird, M.J., Wilt, Dream, Malone, West, and others.

He is more in 3rd or 4th tier of all time greats, Kobe and Duncan are much closer to status. Kobe hasn't won the last few seasons, because the Lakers has been horrible everywhere else.

I agree. This team has been stacked for a few seasons now and haven't got enough out of it.

Saying Steve Nash is the best player in the game is a bit of a hyperbole IMO, it's hard to take anything away from him but he plays little to no defense and only fits well on very specifically built teams... to me, a player with those conditions can't be the best.

dallas won that series in 6 games.

That Phoenix team has about 6 or 7 players. Amare is the only player that can play down low because their whole team is essentially two's and threes.
Contrast that to the Mavs who most years go about 9 or 10 players deep.

Thats why teams with good low post players (Spurs, Lakers, Mavs) are able to be competitive and beat the suns is that they have no one that effectively guard good 4 or 5's, or keep the other teams from grabbing a monster amount of rebounds.

Without Steve Nash that Suns team would struggle to make the playoffs.

As badass as Baron Davis is, the Warriors would be a 55-64 win team with Steve Nash. Mainly because Nash is consistent. He is great every nightm while Davis is known for taking nights off.

can we make this the official steve nash appreciation thread? =)

Nash just invested in a women's soccer league with the hope of inspiring women and children.

SAN FRANCISCO - Steve Nash is known on the basketball court for peerless vision that allows him to see plays before they develop.

Off the court, Nash is already visualizing the success of the Women's Professional Soccer league more than a year before it starts. He's becoming an investor and part owner of the new venture.

"I look at my childhood and realize how many athletes I had to look up to," Nash said in a phone interview. "I look at the opportunity to put some of these wonderfully talented athletes who are dedicated and committed and put them in a setting to inspire a whole generation below them."

The deal to bring on Nash and fellow Victoria native Jeff Mallett, a former president and chief operating officer at Yahoo Inc., as investors for the seven-team league was to be formally announced Tuesday by the San Francisco-based league.

Before Nash became a two-time NBA MVP, he was one of the top young soccer players in British Columbia. His college days were spent at longtime women's soccer power Santa Clara.

Those experiences contributed to his interest in being part of the new league.

"I think it will have ripple effects for a long time," said Nash. "I'm looking forward to it getting off the ground. I want to be a big fan and hopefully watch them not only entertain but inspire lots of young girls and kids in general."

Nash comes from a soccer family. His father, John, played professionally in South Africa, and his sister, Joann, was the captain of the University of Victoria soccer team. His brother, Martin, plays professionally for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

As the father of three-year-old twin girls, Nash wants to help the growth of women's soccer in the United States. The investment from Nash and Mallett will fund the ongoing development of the league and is specifically earmarked for new media ventures and initiatives.

"I really just want to be a super fan and watch this league grow," said Nash. "If I can help spread the word and help get access to some of my fans and help this women's league take off in this country, I'd be happy to do that."

Women's Professional Soccer plans to debut in spring 2009 with teams expected in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New Jersey/New York, St. Louis and Washington. The league is looking to add an eighth team before the launch, with possibilities including Vancouver, the San Francisco Bay area, Cary, N.C., and Philadelphia.

Commissioner Tonya Antonucci said she hopes having a "quintessential soccer dad" such as Nash will help attract other fathers to follow the league.

"Having Steve Nash involved is tremendous for our league given the cachet that comes with such an accomplished professional athlete," Antonucci said. "Steve brings such a passion for the game. By endorsing us and putting his money in our league, it shows he believes in the promise of what we're doing. He wants to get involved beyond just investing. He wants to make sure this launch is a successful one."

Mallett, who was already an adviser to the fledgling league, was responsible for bringing Nash on board. He once played in the Canadian national program.

Mallett also has been involved in Major League Soccer and believes the women's game in the United States has an advantage over the men's game. He thinks it will have a better chance to attract the best players in the world, such as Brazilian star Marta.

"It has been a challenge because soccer fanatics like Steve and I, when the TV is on we're watching Tottenham versus Chelsea," Mallett said. "Some folks gravitate to the best of the best, and I think the women have a chance of attracting people like Marta and some of the best global talent to form the best league in the world."

Best payer in the game hands down come on man you tripping. I don't even think hes the best PG in the game. I would take Kidd and B.Davis over nash anyday. Nash is a system player. Put Nash a half court team and see what he look like then.
