I've read many posts this year that have made light of the importance of cuttino and francis. I have even started to questioned whether these two guys are what we need to build a championship on top of. Recently I looked up the highest per game point average and seen that Mobley and Steve are number 14 and 15 at 21.7 ppg each. Every person above these two and most below in ppg are in the playoffs. My point being, why are we complaining about these guys? Ultimately, these negative posts confuse me. You gotta pick out someone besides these two... 43.4 pts per game is no joke. The situation is similar to when Hakeem had no cast. He was good, the team he needed to win a championship was building. It takes time and patience.
i agree dude why bash the two of these guys??? i got a question about them though, the rocks are like 2-20 when steve doesnt play and like 25-28 when he does play, i was wondering what the record is when cat misses or when they both play together.
Well, I think Cat and Steve are just blamed the most because they are the two best players on the team. I mean, who else are you going to blame? Cato, Kenny, Moochie, Griffin, Morris? Those players just aren't significant enough to put the blame on. In my opinion, the Rockets just simply do not have the personell to contend in the western conference. Eventhough I agree Rudy hasn't done a good job, I really don't think it would matter, even when they're healthy. And it has NOTHING to do with Cat and Steve's play, but it has everything to do with the fact that this team is about 3 players deep. Other teams like the Spurs and Lakers have three or four people coming off the bench who are better and more reliable than at least two of our starters. On top of that I would say the Rockets probably had possibly the worst front court in the league this past season, which will not cut it in the Western Conference. All the good teams have several good role players. I don't even think the Rockets have one. I think if the Rockets can just get at least one, solid, consistent big man, and a couple reliable role players they'll be a contender. Hopefully that big man will be Griffin, but that remains to be seen. You can blame Francis, Mobley, Rudy all you want, but I think what it basically comes down to is the Rockets don't have the players to be a contender in the West. While that may sound grim, I think its the truth. And I'm aware that there are many reasons to be critical of Steve, Mobley, and Rudy, but I think those that want to get rid of them are just being impatient and don't realize that the Rockets are still in the midst of a rebuilding process. Hell, a lot of the teams we're jealous of now like the Kings and Mavericks were rebuilding for the better part of a decade, so in my opinion the Rockets have done a pretty good job of rebuilding so far. They actually have players who want to stay with the team, which is something that can't be said for the Mavs during the 90's or the Clippers for that matter.
i agree, i live up here in dallas and have been able to watch the struggles that the mavs have gone through over the years. all of the people who are trashing the rocks personel need to calm down and take it easy on them. sure a coaching change may bring 1 or 2 more wins but it wont bring a championship with the players we currently have. keeping francis and mobley should be #1 priority, next we gotta bring in a big man and yoa ming isnt him. he is supposed to be better than wang zhi-zhi but wang has a hard enough time so i doubt yoa ming will be able to compete against duncan shaq or even somebody like divac. the rice attempt was noble but obviously isnt working as well as mo taylor. id like to see him play a full season before i decide what to do with him, but the biggest mistake made was to not bring in webber. that shouldve happened and didnt now we gotta move on and hopefully griffin will pick it up and play at all star status. basically like dckid said its going to take a long time to get back up to contention but when we do we'll be there for many years.
