If you are of the opinion that Bonds should rot in hell, I must say that I believe it's extreme but Bonds himself isn't doing anything to try to fix this hatred that America has for him...so who am I to take up for him.
I've met Bonds dozens of times... he hangs out at Golds Gym all the time, and goes to different sports bars in SF. Out of all the celebrities, and athletes I've met in the city... T.O., Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Jeff Kent, Robin Williams... Bonds is by far the most down to Earth. He is a completely different person than what the media portrays him to be.
I love the arguments 1. I hate barry bonds. . .i'll ignore the article 2. though I know nothing about the Negro Leagues I will ASSUME they were inferior . .and say Babe was still the best The Article is GREAT, ICEHOUSE thanks for the Read BTW from what I heard about BABE. . he was not an overly nice guy . . nor the most virtuous Rocket River
We villify Bonds, but I'd be hard pressed to name a single player-- ONE SINGLE PLAYER-- in the NFL who has never in his life used steroids. I mean, come ON.
I'm looking forward to seeing if pitchers will finally throw strikes to Barry this year. I mean he was only good because of Steroids right? Can people really continue to hate if he continues to hit for average and notch a HR every 8 at-bats this season? Kinda like Kobe, dislike his personality if it doesn't jive with you, but you can't deny his game.
Maybe at the All-Star game in Pittsburgh this year they can do something different. It's always been National vs. American, but you know how hockey was doing North America vs. the World? I thought that was pretty awesome. Baseball should have a take on that: an All-Steroid team vs. the World. It is pretty ridiculous that there's very little anger against McGwire and Sosa these days when it's all on Bonds. Maybe people just feel '98 was such an amazing time it was okay for those guys to use supplements. Going back to the issue regarding Bonds being an *******...well he's always had issues with the media and I always hear that he's a real nice guy. But here's my point: If Bonds had a better relationship with the media and public (writers, fans, etc.) there would be none of this absolute hating. Wishing a guy to rot in hell? Come on, honestly. He isn't doing a thing to you; the only thing he is doing is acting like an idiot. If people knew his funny side, the world would LOVE him. Him dressing up like Paula Abdul was intended to be funny: too late for that Barry. Everyone wants you to disappear like Raffy.
This is an interesting piece and a thought provoking one. It reminds us of the sad part about baseball. It reminds me why folks like Babe Ruth should have their records and hall of fame status with an astericks by the side. Baseball during segregation was not trully baseball - it was a joke and an insult to humanity. We fans need to take our own fair share of the blame for how we allowed segregation and steriods to rule baseball for so long. Maybe we are more evil as a people that we really think of ourselves. For the first time a pertinent question has been asked - which is worst? Segregation of Steriods? The answer may not be that simple but the truth of the failings of both era is something the evil side of us will like to forget about. The mistake we made back then is turning our heads the other way. Here is hoping it does not happen again. P.S. Barry Bonds I do not necessarily like but I will have a major problem if people have with his records and not have the same sentiments and denouncement for baseball greats who dorminated the segregated times of the game. P.P.S. For the person saying that Barry cheated on his wife and lied, and so should rot in hell....I'll say "he who is without sin, cast the first stone". If you have not commited fornication (sin against your body, God's temple) or lied or cheated in the past....or even worse....or have not gossiped in your life (God hates gossip as much as he hates any other sin) feel free to berrate Barry. Since he is charged with moral sins, the bible tells us that we will be judged even much harder than we judge others. P.P.P.S. Who here (white in particular) would say excatly how they would have felt or reacted to baseball when it was segregated? Would have boycotted baseball? Would have forth the segregated body until your last breath?
