I don't know dude, Pike and Jon Barry are similar players. When the McGrady deal goes through, I have a feeling JJ won't be our starter at SF which means JJ will be playing as many backup SG and SF minutes as possible. Whether its through a FA acquisition or playing Boki, I just have a feeling JJ will become a reserve---in which case signing Barry makes no sense, even for the minimum. Unless of course, the Pike for Kevin Ollie deal goes through, then whatever. TOO MANY "WHAT IF'S" lol
Jon would back-up Tmac, and allow TMac to play the 3 when JJ is resting. Except Jon and Peeler are just better. I have little doubt JJ won't start. The nice thing about him as well as Tmac--they can seemlessly move between the 2 and 3. We just need a quality back-up 2 or 3. That said, a quality back-up 2 or 3 is secondary to getting a starting 1 (e.g., Brent Barry, Alston) and a defensively oriented guy who can back up 5. Unless a guy like Peeler or Jon (come joing your brother) seeks us out for the vet min don't expect another swingman to be signed until we have more key holes filled in.
Turkoglu? Please. If we need somebody to brick a three with the game on the line, we can always throw the ball to Nachbar.
You're talking as if once the T-Mac deal goes down all we will do is sign some some free agents and then our roster is set. Having Taylor and Howard on the same team makes absolutely no sense. One of them will be moved. Personally, I like Taylor for Croshere. Croshere could start at SF for us or give quality backup minutes at both forward positions. Perhaps Taylor to Portland for Derek Anderson? Many believe the Pike for Kevin Ollie deal is just on the backburner until the T-Mac deal happens. If we end up with Lue/Ollie/Gaines at PG there's no need to sign another PG. Granted, none of those guys are superstars but Lue and Ollie protect the ball and play good defense, and with a team as talented as ours will be we don't need much else from the PG position. That being said, I would take Jon Barry at the minimum if we he would sign for it to replace Pike as our reserve shooter, but I doubt he would. I am still all for signing McDyess for cheap. Perhaps Keon Clark to backup Yao? We have many options.
