Were trading T-mac not even knowing how good he is because he had such a limited role, due to us developing the young guys like battier. If he get's back to his all-star caliber form 40 pt games and triple doubles, knowing that's one of the teams glaring weaknesses (scorer/creator from the wing positions). Would you think Rockets took a step forward or back?... Considering we still have yao/prime= win now
I think at this point...any decision that involves Tracy leaving the organization is a "Step Forward".
We had him in his Prime. we've been down that road and climbed broke back mountain. its time to move on, his 25/6/6 did not get us out of the 2nd round with a healthy yao.
The moves were looking to make looks as if were rebuilding, but we have Yao whose in our plans and in his prime shouldn't we be thinking win now?
We already took a step back while cutting ties with him by not playing him. The Rockets' step forward is salvaging what they can from his contract imo.
Forward. Even if he still has game, he burned his bridge in Houston with the stunt he pulled last year. Just get him off the team and lets move on.
To me it seems that if McGrady was willing to play within the team and system and not be "the guy" he would be playing right now. I myself would love to see him putting up 16-18 points but shooting a better percentage and see his assists go up to about 8 a game. I don't see him doing that and being happy with this team so I'd say it's a step forward to unload him somewhere.
This. Granted that Yao/T-Mac didn't have this supporting cast in the playoffs, but the lingering problem for both has always been injuries. Unfortunately, our team's two stars turned out to be the most injury prone superstars in the league.
Even if he starts scoring 30 pts a game, he has no killer instict and is lazy and gives up on his team. STEP FORWARD for the Rockets.
We are rebuilding in one aspect. The Yao and T-Mac era didn't lead us to anything. That's why Morey is trying to acquire draft picks and expiring contracts for us to make trades later to acquire a stud. He's stated several times that the only way the Rockets are going to get better is through trades. We don't have enough capspace to offer a max contract to anyone that is on the market but we have assets that can net us someone that's already under contract. The Rockets' main focus is on 2010-2011 based on the rumor deals that's been leaked out. We have to trust Morey's decisions even if we don't make the playoffs.
Regardless of a supporting cast, both guys have not helped the cause with all their injuries. Some would say that Yao and T-Mac didn't do enough against the 2007 series against Utah. Either way, it's time to move on. As it stands right now, we don't know what Yao will be able to do when he returns next year. The best thing Morey can do is get us into position to make deals that can better us further down the road.
I think it will be agreat move forward. Even if we just let him expire. Your attitude determines your altitude. He brings a negative attitude.
