Yeah I know there are a billion other threads on steakhouses started by me. But I am too lazy to look them up and plus steaks deserve new threads once in a while. Anyone been to Fuad or H.B. Japanese Steakhouse? If so how are they? Also how are: Brenners Mortons of Chicago Palm Pappas Bros Steakhouse
When I am in Houston and I have to take a client out we always go to Pappas.............It is Excellent although very pricey. Not sure if you have them in Houston but we have a steakhouse called "Kobe Steakhouse" they cook in front of you and it`s also excellent, but quite a bit cheaper than Pappas...........mmmmmmmmmm Steak
I know I'm in the minority on this, but Outback Steakhouse is awesome. Their Ribs on the Barbie just fall off the bone, and their Rack of Lamb just melts in your mouth...Plus, they have those incredible cinnamon apples...oh yeah... OK, as a sidebar, what is everyone's favorite cut of meat? Mine has to be a ribeye steak...I got hooked on these ribeye sandwiches that Grand Prize BBQ serve... Here's to the host who can boast the most roast! - Ned Flanders
I've gotta go with Ruth's Chris Steak House or the 16 oz. filet mignon at the Palm... (Here, in NYC, it's Peter Luger's, Sparks, Smith and Wollensky's, Palm, or Ruth's Chris Steak House)
HB is like Benihanna's style where the table is a grill that they cook on. Benihannas is a little nicer in my opinion. I've haven't been to the Palm lately, but last time I was there, I wasn't overly impressed. It's pretty good, but a think a little overpriced for what you get. There is a place called Churasscos that's absolutely amazing in my opinion. Churrascos: 2055 Westheimer at Shepherd in Shepherd Square, 713-527-8300; 9705 Westheimer at Gessner in Westchase, 713-952-1988.
If you want Churrascos (the South American Steak) as good as Churrascos (the restaurant) makes it, but you don't want to pay as much, head down south to Galveston and eat at Rudy & Paco--my favorite dinner spot on the island. Say hello to Paco (he's always walking amongst the tables), and he'll remember you for life. Sidenote: One of the co-owners is Rudy Teichman whose buds call him "Rudy T," and have for a long time. When they started the place, they called it Rudy T. & Paco's. However, our lovable coach of the Houston Rockets sued, and the rest they say, "is history..."
Hey Elienator is HB worth going with a bunch of friends? Is it entertaining watching the chefs? Also you all have got to try Fogo Da Chao. Nothing can ever beat that. I just want to try something different now.
For a real Texas steakhouse go to Taste of Texas. Great atmosphere, large portions, unlimitted salad bar, pick your own steak, tour of the kitchen, extra seasoning, if you wish, for your steak. Try the cinamen coffee and butter. Birthdays, father's day, and other special occasions for my family are spent at the Taste of Texas. Churrascos has a different sort of steak but is great. I never had a steak that good on my visit to Brazil. A truly great steak. Papas is good but you are paying more for the service. Funny story on one visit. My mother usually likes to nibble on mine or my fathers steak. She asked for an extra plate to nibble on some of ours. They brought her a nice hot plate with butter on it. $7.95. Great service though. If you want good chicken fried steak, try Good Eats.
I think I've mentioned it before... I work at Saltgrass. The steaks are good and reasonably priced. They serve only 100% Certified Angus Beef. It's high quality stuff. (Little known secret: the salads are "all-you-can-eat", you just have to know it. If you ask nicely, the soup (as an accompaniment to the entree) can be too.) My favorite steak at Saltgrass is the 16oz ribeye. They tell us that our Center Cut Filet is so lean that it has less fat than a chicken breast. Being so lean, it isn't the most flavorful steak, but is the most tender steak you can get. ------------------------- My wife and I went to a small restaurant called "Rauols", it used to be located in the same parking lot as the Carrabas on 1960 (east of Willowbrook). It moved recently (a little closer to Willowbrook). But, I had a 16 or 18oz strip steak with Portabella mushrooms, and let me tell you.... it was the most delicious steak I've ever eaten. It was very tasty and tender and the mushrooms were so friggin' good I nearly peed myself. ------------------------- I have been wanting to go to Fogo de Chao's for a while now. Isn't there another place similar to it? I don't remember if it is considered better, cheaper, or worse.....
Amazingly Carrabas on Bay Area has one of the best filet mignon I have ever tasted. An Italian restaurant
My fellow steak-lovers, you guys need to try Brenner's on Katy Freeway. I mean the steak here is simply the best, juiciest piece of meat I have ever ever ever eaten.
HB is a really cool place to go with a bunch of friends but there is a new place at 1960 and 249. I cannot for the life of me think of the name. I can ask my wife and she would know. Their food is exactly like HB but I think slightly cheaper priced. The chefs are more fun to watch as they put more into their presentation. It is over by the new movie theatre across 249 from Willowbrook mall.
The Palm is the balm, er, I mean BOMB! You will never have a bad meal there no matter what you order, steak or otherwise. Others I like are the Capitol Grille, Ruth's Chris and Mortons. Never been to Resa's, Greenbriar Chophouse or Taste of Texas, but I've heard good things about all three. I avoid C&H on the Southwest Freeway. Didn't have a good experience there. For the same money as C&H, you can get a great steak at the Palm.
I'd have to give top-nods to Taste of Texas. You can do no wrong here. I've had more than a few great steaks at Ruggles, too. For best bang for the buck, go with Outback Steakhouse. In my opinion, they have better portions there and their seasonings are much better than Saltgrass. (plus they have the bloomin' onion...mmmmmmmm) x34
For those of y'all in Austin... Texas Land & Cattle. Not too expensive for a steakhouse, and really good. (I think this may exist in other towns, too, but not Houston.) For Houston, The Stables is a moderately priced steakhouse near the Med Center.
