We have to keep Rice, we are paying him out the ass and he is under contract for one more year and no one will take him in a trade. Rice will back up the three, Cato will back up the four and five and eddie can play both the four and three. I imagine Nachbar might get some time along with Badiane. Piatkowsky can also play some three.
Rice is valuble due to his contract. Teams looking to make cap room next year and dump some salary would trade a longer contract for him. If you had an injury your way too thin at all of your frontcourt spots. I thought we wanted EG to stop shotting all those 3s and bang in the paint.
I didn't realize Cheaney was available, I think that he would be a nice fit. Cheaney is a credible scorer, even without Stockton, solid D and is athletic. All we would need from Cheaney is athletic D, and a decent outside shot. Definitely would be a solid, cheap pick up.
He's one of my list that I want the Rox to give a look at: Bryon Russel, CALBERT CHEANEY, Stephen Jax --> SF Mark Jackson,Kenny Anderson --------> PG
Cheaney would be terrible, a tweener who doesn't play defense and can't really score. We'd be better off with Smith. But they let Posey go because JVG likes a big front court. I think it might work.
Steve Smith's knees are glass- fragile as Rice. I do not want him on our team. SA never played him..... I'm beginning to think that Glen Rice contract is only of value to other teams and has no trade value to us. We will only be offered very fat -bad contracts for Rice to match salary. We will be better off letting Rice contract complete here and get it off our books.... I hope I'm wrong about this.....
At this point, Steve Smith is essentially Glen Rice all over again. Calbert Cheaney may have been a good pickup 5 years ago, but would be a disappointment for us today. Ditto Bryon Russell. However, I do believe Stephen Jackson would be a nice addition. He is young, talented, and athletic. The real question there is whether his recent success in S.A. has priced him out of the Rockets range.
Dion Glover 6-5 UFA swingman from the Hawks. Last year averaged 10 pts 3.5 boards in 24mpg. Has the athleticism of Posey with similiar percentages.
Good call on Glover. I saw him a bit with the Hawks last year. He is a decent role player. But at 6-5 he is a little short to play SF.
Terence Morris 6-9 UFA from some team in Houston. He doesn't talk much(ala Eddie) but he surely does hustle(ala Juaquin). Sign Robert Pack to the veterans minimum. Keep Juaquin.
