Blowout city. Makes me feel better the Rockets loss against them. Granted it was after Duncan had to be subbed out from his knee injury.
Not sure. He got it late in the first half after falling down under the basket with the basketball. He walked it off but was noticably limping all game. I didn't catch if there was anything after that during the start of the 3rd but apparently the injury was nagging enough for him to sit the remainder of the game. Since then the Mavs have been tearing it up with a huge blowout lead. As far as the injury goes he was able to play through it, which can be both good or bad. Good news since he was able to play through it for til the 3rd quarter. Bad news since playing might of made his injury worse. They're just saying it's a leg injury but it looks like it was something effecting his knee. TNT also said during the Minny game a few nights ago Madsen knocked Duncan's leg pretty good as well,
sigh!Spurs without TD is really mediocre! This guy is amazing, scored 22,17reb only in 25min. Mavericks did a better job on defence, that made its offence sharper.I think thats why Mavs won 16 among 20 recently. Im just wondering how would Kings be if it has Spurs's defence.
From watching this game, the Mavericks gave less defensive attention to Duncan that than they did to Yao. It goes to show that the Mavericks respect the outside shooters and passing abilities of the Spurs more than the Rockets. It was a blowout anyway though. Rockets need better shooters if hey want to compete with the Mavericks.
Tim Duncan got kneed in the thigh right above the knee by Scott Williams when Tim was driving for a basket down the baseline. The muscles surrounding the knee may have been weakened because of this which allowed his knee to buckle. It looks like they are taking him out for precautionary measures when he probably felt something give in the knee early in the 3rd. Mavericks are a powerful team, but they can be beaten with an effective inside-out attack. It really wasn't until the Spurs started bricking their 3 pointers that the Mavericks started blowing them out. Finley was on fire.
Actually,Mavs can also play inside-out,Nash,Jamison,Finley,Walker,Nowitzki,u know those guys all capable of playing inside and outside.but Nelson wants quick tempo, wants crazy offence.it follows, therefore they usually take 8-10sec to complete offence.if three of them are on fire, theres no team can beat it!now Mavs paid more attention to its defence, which will make it better.the game(115 - 91) is a typical example.
You know this is interesting; I had JUST been telling a person who argued with me about the best team in the west and who will win the title (I chose an Eastern Conf. team only because Sacramento always chokes and I feel CWebb will hurt the current chem; Dallas is playing not as well as they should; LA is sucking it big time; and SA is nothing without Duncan), but that's another story (just imagine you didn't see that first parentheses). In the conversation I said I could only see SA win it because TD is the team and then I said (direct quote): 'Just watch and see that when Duncan gets injured, the team will collapse.' Okay, so maybe they won't collapse, but my point was proven in that they are no team without Duncan (which we all knew). But I had said this literally minutes before he was kneed.
LOL,I can imagine how surprise the person was.also, Im not superstitious but can u predict where will Rockets be?
What? I'm sure San Antonio had enough time to get in the plane, fly home, and Tim went straight to the hospital... got an MRI done (which typically takes anywhere from 2-5 hours), doctor's diagnose it, tell the press, press leaks it out, and espn board poster is able to post it. We won't know till tommorow. It still could be possible, however, and if it ends up being true, I'm going to look like a jackass. Ah well.
It couldn't possibly be a torn ACL. Duncan played a while after that injury and was eventually taken out. I'm not a doctor but I'm pretty sure that it would be almost impossible even to walk with a torn ACL, leaving alone running and jumping. Anyway, I hope that TD is OK.
I've actually heard different things on this... some people have gotten partial tears, and didn't really feel much pain (until the inflmmatory response kicked in and then they realized something was wrong). Of course, it couldn't be a full-blown tear (like Brent Price). My best guess... he strained one of the ligaments in the "unhappy triad" (MCL, ACL, PCL).
Here's the Chronicle's recap: Feb. 27, 2004, 12:37AM Mavs go to 3-0 vs. Spurs Finley leads charge in 46-point period; Duncan hurt Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle News Services DALLAS -- Even with Tim Duncan, the San Antonio Spurs were having trouble stopping the Dallas Mavericks. Then Duncan went out with a bruised thigh early in the second half, and the Mavericks were able to put on a show. Michael Finley opened the third quarter with a dunk and closed it with a swish from behind the halfcourt stripe, perfect bookends for a 46-point period that sent Dallas past San Antonio 115-91 Thursday night. "I told the team before the game it was going to be a playoff atmosphere, so let's have a playoff attitude," said Finley, who had 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-7 on 3-pointers. Duncan went out with 7:15 left in the third, having already produced 22 points and 17 rebounds in 25 minutes. Although he appeared to be rubbing his left knee, and teammates said that's what he was complaining about, the team announced that the problem was just above the joint. "He's got some sort of thigh contusion," coach Gregg Popovich said. "He's probably going to miss a little bit of time." Duncan spent about 20 minutes in the trainer's room, then limped out of the locker room and was taken to the team bus on a golf cart. His only comment was, "I don't know what happened." Dallas won its fourth straight and improved its league-best home record to 26-4. The Mavs also improved to 3-0 against San Antonio this season, clinching the season series. That would matter if the teams end the season with identical records. Both were 60-22 last season, but the Spurs won the division by virtue of a better head-to-head record. The impressive part of this victory, though, was how it happened. "They like to play a halfcourt game, so we wanted to make it a fast-paced game," said Dirk Nowitzki, who had 23 points. The 46 points in the third quarter was the most Dallas had ever scored in that period. It also was more than the Spurs allow in most halves. They'd only given up 100 points four times, none since Jan. 14. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2423014
Surprisingly untrue, actually. As important as the ACL is to your leg, you can do quite a bit on a torn one before the swelling sets in. Curtis Enis played three quarters of a game on one back in 1998, and because he was so ineffective anyway, nobody noticed. The Chicago Tribune had a shot of him kneeling on his bum knee, post-tear, on the cover the sports section the next morning. Qyntel Woods played an entire hoops season in high school after tearing his ACL on his football team. Eric Williams was in the midst of a 40-point performance with the Nuggets in 1997, he tore his ACL midway through the third quarter, but played (and was pretty potent offensively) the rest of the contest. Not recommended to play on a torn ACL, but it's not like being shot in the face. An older friend of mine tore his ACL while playing hoops, and he said the pain was only second to knocking knees. Think about that. A bone contusion, something that he was able to walk off after writhing in pain for a minute or two, was more painful than the torn ACL. I really hope TD is okay, it would be a major blow if he tore anything. I can't remember a stronger playoff bracket in NBA history than what we're looking at with the West right now. I don't buy the initial quad diagnosis, especially after watching him rub his patella on the bench, so here's hoping ...
