I like Bateer a lot as he showed skill at the WC. It would have been nice to have him on our roster but a little risky to have multiple Chineese players given this history of how difficult it is to get them signed and on the court. Plus we didn't have the roster spot for him. note: I'm trying to discuss this in the right context so it doesn't get slapped w/ "Wrong Forum."
if he would have been 'good' for Yao, then this is terrible. If not, who cares? PS Why wouldn't G'State have wanted him? remember the crowds for Yao in June?
Not sure because of the context it is in...Clutch mentioned the Bateer rumour in his article today, so there is some relevance with regards to the Rockets.
This makes the Spurs better I think....Man the west is stacked, and the Mid west is gonna be tough.....maybe the best Texas teams ever assembled; In one year?
They need somebody to play center after Robinson retires so they can keep saying that Duncan is a PF.
No previous rumors involving the Rockets: Bateer signs with the Spurs --> clear case for the NBA Dish. "Confirmed" Rumor: Bateer possibly to the Rockets? If the rumor turns out to be untrue ---> fair to provide this info in the Rockets forum, even if only to prevent further "Bateer to the Rockets" discussion threads. It's a matter of interpretation. NBA Dish would be right in any case, but one could argue that it is relevant to the Rockets forum.
I understand were happy with our team, but when you have a chance to better the team without giving up anyone, why not do it? Just the fact that Mink could of made Ming’s transition to the NBA lifestyle so much easier makes him worth a second round pick IMHO. Really how much of a chance does our second round pick have of making the team next year?
Man don't you guy's have anything better to talk about anyway? Let the moderators decide if it's the rite forum or not. geeez!
Or how about the dude just posts it in the right forum in the first place. geez! My contribution to the topic: Spurs suck, but Bateer could be a nice pick up for the playoffs when Robinson is either injured or pusses out.
I think its going to be good for the NBA and Rockets to see Yao battle Bateer. When we beat SA regularly.....
Has anybody thought if Dallas match LA's offer sheet and bring back Wang, then the "great wall of China" will all be in Texas. Thats pretty cool.
We're already stacked at the 4 and the 5 with KT, Griff, Mo, Cato and JC and of course Yao. It's a great pick-up for the Spurs because, while they have a quality froncourt with Duncan, Robinson, Malik and Big Kev, they need some more depth, and an extra guy who can play the center position and Bateer fills that role, and has a chance to develop better in San Antonio then Houston because of the minutes. I don't think Bateer would have helped Yao's transition into the NBA any easier then the current Rockets and coaching staff.
How can he be traded, after just being traded? I thaught they would have to hold off for at least 60days?
Robinson and Willis will retire soon. Bateer will get some minutes. I think he's a sleeper. Good luck to him.
You can trade them in one for one (straight-up) or one for picks/cash deals immediately after having been traded already; the 60 day rule only applies to including them in a package with other players or trading them for multiple players.
