i was sitting here wondering, what if the reason stevie hasn't signed his extension yet, is because he's waiting so rockets management can figure out a doable sign and trade for rashard? don't you think that it is possible that he doesn't want his contract to hamstring the efforts of management to bring rashard to town? perhaps once that is worked out, then the rockets and francis would know for sure how much his contact will be worth. this would explain the wait, and it would also explain francis' comments on his concern for the direction of the team. thoughts? damn, this is a long off season....
1. The contract that Steve will sign is an extension and will not take affect until the NEXT season , not this season. That would have no effect on salary issues THIS year. 2. The Rockets are over the cap now so whether Steve signs or not has no effect on a S&T for Lewis.
It's obvious the extension hasn't been signed because Steve is greedy and selfish and only thinks about himself.

Francis doesn't seem too concerned, CD isn't worried, Rudy T doesn't seem to be freaking out so if they're not, I'm not. He'll sign the deal in due time and he'll be a Rock for a long time.
well, there is clearly a hold up. Davis and Marion signed their extensions. However, Brand and Odom haven't. So??? At first it was Les wanting to see the Mayo Clinic results. Now, who knows anymore than what is holding up Brand and Odom? Odom is likely price. But, Brand has to be offered a max. Maybe since they have Odom, Miller and Brand due extensions they don't want to give Brand his max, until they can get Odom and Miller to sign for less than max. It kinda ruins negotating on price if you give Brand a max first. The only other players who haven't signed who might be worth Max's is Andre Miller. Miller was likely held up for trade reason. Wally, Rip H, and Terry probably are negotiating price. my suspicion is there is uncertainty on how long the extension will be for Francis. I can't imagine it is not a max pay contract after Davis and Marion got theirs. If it isn't, Les is stupid. If Les is worried about migraines, the best way to deal with that is a shorter extension, not marginally less pay. So, it has to be a length thing. The sides are not in agreement over years or are not ready to make that call. This thing must be signed by Oct 31st, so maybe Francis wants to wait until he plays with Ming to commit longterm, or Les wants to see if the migraines return in camp. Either way, there is not much more info or discussion out there.
As Dennis said, I don't think that is why. There really isn't any implications that Francis' contract can have on Lewis' S&T unless management is contemplating giving Francis something less than the max. I think the reason must be either much more sinister or much less. More sinister would be that Francis is waiting for the Rockets to do something tangible to improve the team before he'll consent to a long-term deal. Less sinister would be they haven't signed yet because they have plenty of time and are in no hurry to get it done. I think it may be a little of both: neither party is in a hurry to get it done, which allows Francis some time to hem and haw about such a long commitment. It's kinda like a girlfriend you'd like to marry but you're afraid to commit to: why push the issue if she isn't pushing the issue?
So you'd rather sign Francis to a week by week contract? Either way, though, the issue is being pushed. Francis is a mid 30s girl. Her clock is ticking. She has to get married (or knocked up soon). If she has fears about this relationship now, she ought to go ahead and dump her boyfriend (or vice versa). I don't see any reason continuing a relationship just based on sex. Or something. What if that perfect girlfriend comes along, and you're already in a relationship? You can't cheat on her and draft the new chick, so you get something more dependable, like a springer. Now you hang out with your dog all of the time, and your girlfriend still leaves you. ****. What the hell are we talking about?
Seems like Les/Rox should have most all the info o the migraine problem now. I don't vote on waiting until camp to get an extension signed by Francis.. they should at least extend their best offer to him and get him signed early Sept.
