I have a Samsung TV (UN55EH6000) and I'm trying to hook it up to an LG soundbar (NB3530A) via optical cable. I have the two connected to each other... but I get nothing. I figured I could go to the TV settings and just change the sound output from TV speakers to X, but no such luck. I have the option of using "External Speaker" but using that setting does nothing either. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
There's no menu button, but using the Function button on the remote I have it set to Optical 1, which is the port the cable is plugged into.
Sounds like there is a deeper problem. I have a soundbar too with optical and it's was as simple as what ziggy said changing the settings of the soundbar itself. I didn'thave to change aanything on my TV.
F***. I bought it off Dell.com back in March but am just now hooking it up. Any chance it's just a bad optical cable?
I've had a Yamaha YHT-S401 soundbar for a couple of years now, and love it. (I've mentioned it here before in other soundbar threads) It's in my bedroom, providing the sound for the display in front of our bed. It's a 3.1, with a separate receiver/subwoofer that drives a soundbar with left, right, and center speakers. The center channel is designed to produce high quality dialogue, and it does. You can turn a "clear voice" feature on and off. On, and you won't have any difficulty hearing dialogue and vocals. All the major digital codecs are supported. It has an actual surround sound effect, particularly noticeable from HD sources, like bluray and dvd discs, or HD channels, like HBO and Showtime, and it can be "tuned" to your room. Game of Thrones sounded great! Want 5.1 surround? The receiver/subwoofer has 2 rear amplified speaker outputs for them. I know this sounds strange, but the subwoofer is built into the receiver, the whole thing connected to the soundbar with a cable. One would think the sub would produce vibrations that would affect the receiver, but it doesn't. Yamaha engineering! The "weakest" part of the system is the sub, but it is fine for a bedroom sized environment. In a living room? I've never tried it there (have Klipsch speakers driven by a Pioneer receiver in my living room, in a surround setup), so I can't speak to that, but it's perfect for a bedroom or other small to medium sized room. It provides a vast improvement over any built in display speakers, regardless of the room. I got a soundbar and I love it over my surround sound. Only bad thing is my soundbar didn't come with a sub woofer. Give it a shot, but man, when I bought it I didn't think they'd be that expensive.
I actually just bought and hooked up the same soundbar today. Plugged it into my tv and wall, turned up the vol on the soundbar and turned the TV sound off and it worked. Took less than 5 minutes to set up. Sorry you're having issues with it. It really should be a simple set up, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's a bad cable.
