Where the hell can I volunteer as a youth basketball coach in Houston?
    YMCA? Salvation Army?
    Suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, sorry about the thread title ambiguity.

I just coached (with help from a friend) my son and his son's 3rd grade boys YMCA BB team.

We lost the first game by 1 basket, got blown out in the second game, then won the next 5 in a row before finishing the season with a tie.

It was more fun than I anticipated. The YMCA is always looking for volunteers.

Simple as that. You will have to fill out some info and they will do a background check, and if you clear then you're ready to roll.

As for the tie, they really don't keep official score in 2nd and 3rd grade sports at the Y... but the kids all know.

I'm not sure if you're serious either, and will reserve comment assuming that you are not.

I just finished a season coaching a church league team.

One of my coworker's sons had gotten a team together last year, but they could not find anyone to coach other than my coworker, who knows Jack Schmidt about basketball. He asked me if I would like to help out.

It is so much fun I did it again this year. Great age of 5th grade.

I would research online and contact different sports complexes with leagues and see if they have any openings or teams that don't have a coach.

It's been my experience that you can't judge a book by its cover.

The funniest part wasn't when he picked 5 black kids. It was the WTF,
say something look he gave after the fact.

What's the best age to coach a sport?

I wouldn't want to coach five year olds who have no clue what they're doing.

I think 10 or so sounds right? They have some game, but need some guidance?
