I picked mine up about an hour ago...I must say, this thing is freaking sweet. Its a little heavier than I had imagined. I wanted to see what a movie looked like so the first thing I did when I started it up was to put Spiderman 2 (comes with the system)..and I was blown away on how big the screen is and how clear it looks. I bought Twisted Metal since they didn't have TigerWoods yet, and the game looks awesome too. I will say this is well worth $250 bucks. I really can't wait to convert some of my DVD's and see them on this thing. I will say this, the PSP has a glossy finish and even the slightest fingerprints show up. If you get one, the best thing you could do is to buy a screen protector.
I'm curious, you guys who are buying these new expensive portables, where do you plan to spend the most time playing these things?
Work during lunch breaks, and work during smoking breaks. School, before class, while waiting for next class. To play at the mall while my girl is shopping. To play while on a flight out of town, or while traveling out of town. White taking a crap in the restroom. During half time at Rocket games....i can go on and on....
That's my issue - I'd really like one of the Japanese ones with a few games, but I wouldn't have any time to play it. Back when I lived in Japan and spent 3 hours a day on the train, it was great having a gameboy, but now I'm too busy to even play pc games.
Oh God, cann't belive somebody would camp for 33 hours for a toy. I have a hunch the guy is gonna sell it on eBay as soon as he gets it.
OK, mini-review. It ROCKS!!! I got it around 10:45 this morning as I had already paid for it. I got a 512MB mem stick at Best Buy for 65 bucks. It was an open box deal. I got lucky. The unit itself is pure sex. Really sleak looking, very high quality video screen. I played Spiderman 2 on it and it really looks good. Looks better than my HDTV playing the same movie on my Prog. Scan DVD player. The small size definitely helps with the sharpness of the movie. I haven't played any music on the PSP or video from my PC yet, so can't comment on that. But I felt like the PSP's speakers are a bit wimpy, the best way to hear PSP content is with headphones or earphones. I have small ears, so headphones work alot better for me because the ear buds that came with the PSP really leave my ears sore after awhile. To the games. I have only played Ridge Racer and Lumines. Lumines is a Tetris-type game and man, it rocks. Really addicting and visually very impressive. They really take advantage of the LCD screen for a multitude of visual effects that would look not as impressive with a TV screen. Ridge Racer is the same ole game, but the presentation and graphics have been pumped up big time. Really a great game to show off the PSP's power. Seems like everytime Sony puts out any gaming machine, Ridge Racer is there to show off the powa of the system. Ridge Racer is like a "best of" game with all the tracks from all the past games in this one. Power sliding is the name of the game and the graphics and sound is incredible. Again, playing with headphones is the way to go. Overall, if you have 300-350 laying around after your Tax rebate, I say go for it. You are going to have to buy an extra memory stick, a screen protector (a must), a USB cable, and a carrying case to really protect your PSP and get the most out of it. If you are strapped for cash or on the fence, wait until the PSP is not going to hurt your wallet as much. I am not sure when a price drop is going to happen, as Sony is usually really stubborn when it comes to that. But going to 3 Wal-Marts today, you should have no problem in finding a PSP. Now after the 3-day weekend, that might change, but for now, there seemed to be atleast 8 per store still in the cabinets. Personally, I am loving the PSP. I am a gamer, and loving the games I bought and when I put pictures on the unit and videos, I really should like it more. The 250+accessories price tag is pretty high, but like I said, if you have the cash laying around, go for it. You won't regret it if you are a gamer or a fan of high-end, high tech gadgets.
Ooh, that'd be a good one. But no, Grand opening is April 1st. Soft opening will be today sometime during the afternoon. I'll be at the registers if you fools decide to show up. Look for the one of the two hispanic guys at a register...I'm obviously one of them. If you guys do go, and don't go to my register, try to give me a mini-review of how your cashier did, I want to know who actually knows their **** and who doesn't .
Just got mine in this morning and spent about 20 minutes or so setting it up and checking out the sampler disc and Spider-Man 2 movie. Can't really add anything to what has already been said; it seems pretty awesome. I will say everything looks a little smaller than what I expected, although looking at high-def close-ups of the PSP since last summer probably had something to do with my expectations. Just as I was finishing it up, my older sister and her boyfriend came by and I got to show it off to them. Needless to say, Sony may have some more potential customers pretty soon. I'm taking a small break to see what's up on the Internet before I plunge into my PSP games. BTW, this day has started pretty great compared to yesterday. As I previously mentioned, I had a track meet yesterday that was going to take "all day." The funny thing was that I really didn't think it was literally going to take all day. I was expecting to get home around 4:30 or so, but I ended up not getting home until around 9:00-9:15 or so. It would have been even later, but our whole team competed in the JV division due to scheduling conflicts with the baseball team (probably would have got home at least another 2 hours later). To make matters worse, I screwed up my hamstring in my first race and was done for the day. Add some stress due to the need of getting in some scholarship applications yesterday, and I was pretty tired, sore, and grumpy last night. I then woke up this morning with my mom placing this big box in my room and telling me that I was accepted for the scholarship we were working on. Great day indeed. Just wish my legs weren't so sore...
Here is a great review on PSP: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000510024287 And there is already a program called PSP Video 9 which will convert and transfer video files to your PSP: http://www.pspvideo9.com/
I am too old to play video games, but I want this b/c it has an 802.11b wireless adapter. What I want to know is does it have an integrated web browser that will allow me to connect to wireless networks to surf the web? If so, is the screen big enough to surf the web (unlike my Treo 600, where the screen is too small to surf the web)????
There's no web browser right now, but there should be one soon once all the hackers get their hands on it. The screen is definitely big enough
So um...oops. Randy Fry said we apparently weren't ready for business. All we were waiting on was his approval and we basically failed. Heh. Next try, Monday.
