Jsut curious for you guys gung-ho about the PSP, when exactly do y'all play them? It seems like for me the only times I'd have to play video games I'm sittign around my room any way so I'd jsut paly my PS2 or Gamecube, it's not like I'm on planes alot or long car trips where I'm not the one doing the driving....

The only portable gaming device I have is a 4 lb grey green and black screen Game Boy.

I am getting one of these PSP's, but not until later this year. The reason for me is that I fly frequently to the middle east, and believe me. It is easy to get bored on a 21hr trip.

A 1st party game is a game developed by, in this case, one of Sony's studios (1st party games for the GC, DS and GBA would be made by Nintendo and for the Xbox would be Microsoft). An example would be God of War for the PS2, Zelda for the Gamecube, and Halo for the Xbox. I believe the link/picture I gave shows all the Sony games, so you can use that as a guide to which games are made by Sony and which are 3rd party.

As for when I'll use the PSP, I'm still in HS so the situation does present itself a few times. I have a few bus trips left in the year, and at least one all-day event for UIL, which I'll really like to have my PSP for. I also feel as though I may use it a little bit before school, especially if I want to show any friends some good videos or songs. I would just do that on the PC's at school, but they suck and I can't update them. They need to hurry up and get that word processor on it so I can say it is my laptop that I need for school.

I am graduating soon though, so I have no idea what things will be like once I'm in college later this year. I'm assuming that I'll find myself in situations where I'll want my PSP. Still, I do have this urge to play it even if I'm in my room, 5 feet away from my PS2 and PC. FWIW, this will be my first portable game console, not to mention my first MP3 play and portable movie player.

A friend of mine has had a PSP for 2 weeks now (imported). As a Nintendo man, I gotta say... WOW. Very slick, indeed. I only played one game (Ridge Racers), but damn, it looked good (and sounded good). This thing is gonna sell like crazy.

I always buy my games from this shop at the flea market. The lady that runs it says she will have about 20 psp on saturday morning. Its cash only,$215. I always get my games there for about 20 bucks cheaper and no tax. email me if u want directions to the flea market.

    God I hope not !!

    :)

The Gizmondo is not a direct competitor of the DS or the PSP, we are a lifestyle product...internet, mail, movies, mp3, gps, tracking, games...etc..etc..etc...

My company was bought by Gizmondo and I have my doubts as well, but I am going to work like a dog to make it a success, and if it falls, well it will be a fun and entertaining ride.

But if it succeeds, I will be having myself a couple of those nice Shelby 500s for my kids and something more exotic for me.

    :D

Not sure what store he is talking about, but my brother is working at the store you mentioned and they open Fri.

I happened to be at Gamestop today (Wed.) and I overheard an employee calling those that preordered the system telling them they will open at 2 a.m. Thurs. to sell to them.

I won't get mine until Friday, if I'm lucky (stupid mail). Sounds bad, but I will be at a track meet all day tomorrow, so it isn't so bad. I'll be drained when I get home, read up on some things, watch the Rockets, and then go to sleep. By the time I wake up (yeah! no school!) maybe there will be this nice box sitting outside my door (probably unlikely though unless I sleep in really late).

I'm a little worried about the reviews for MGA and Untold Legends, two of the games coming in with my PSP. IGN and some others really gave some low scores to MGA, but other reviews of the game have been better. I've read that some of the reviewers (IGN in particular) were pretty much hating on the game because it was a strategy/card battle game instead of exactly how good it was.

Untold Legends is just barely getting reviewed from what it seems, and it is getting hit up pretty hard as well. Again, personal comments about the game seem to make up for the low (compared to other PSP games) scores, but it still worries me. I'll probably switch out the 3rd game in my bundle (Spiderman) for Ridge Racer if possible, and see if I can get any more through that EB Games deal. Still a little undecided on what else to get though.

BTW, it has been mentioned that the PSP has been locked at 222MHz for the CPU and 111MHz for the GPU (they max out at 333MHz and 166MHz). This has been done due to battery concerns basically. What this means is that all the games coming out now and maybe for a while will not be using the full power of the PSP. It is assumed that once Sony, or maybe even someone else, comes out with some better batteries for the PSP, Sony will unlock those limits, allowing developers to use every bit of power available. This really doesn't mean too much for consumers, although early adopters will most likely need a newer battery down the road since the newer games would drain the battery quicker than current games. What's pretty cool is that it seems like there could be a pretty good performance gain once these things are unlocked, but some of the launch games already look amazing. Imagine what games will look like in the future, especially when developers learn more about the PSP.

Also, has anyone seen the commercial(s) for the PSP yet? Sounds like they started this morning, during Sportscenter. I missed that one, but have seen one of them twice in the last hour or so on G4. Seems pretty cool to me. There was a link to that commercial online, but it isn't working anymore, so I can't show it to those who haven't seen it. There may be others out there though.

Hmm...it seems like there is an update available to download for the PSP already. I just barely saw this, and it appears that it doesn't do too much (despite being 14MB in size) for NA PSP's, so I wouldn't recommend downloading it at the moment. The main link is here:
    http://www.playstation.jp/psp/update/ud_01.html
Click on "Update with Personal Computer" next. After that is when I get a little confused. There are 3 download links, and with it all being in Japanese, I don't have any idea what the difference between them is, or if it evens says what the update is exactly. I'm downloading off of the first link and will either try it or learn more about it before posting again about it here. Feel free to try it out tomorrow though, and maybe you could post about it as well.

I like seeing so many options available for launch titles for the PSP - definitely a good job there - but of all those the only ones that interest me are Lumines and Wipeout Pure.

And possibly the NBA game, but the chances that 989 made something good are often quite low.

Those were two of the games I was considering heavily; in fact, I even actually had Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racer in my mind, but I decided to go with RR since I'm more of a fan of those type of racing games. I've heard great things about Lumines and may also pick that game up is possible. I'm just not a fan of puzzle-type games in particular, although I'm sure that may change if I get that game. I was also considering getting Twisted Metal: Head On. It sounds pretty good, and it would be cool to play that game online or wirelessly.

I would have liked to get the NBA game too, but I'm definitely holding off on that one. Pretty much all the reviews for it have been bad, including comments I've read on the message boards. IIRC, I think the Sony soccer game was the highest rated game, but I don't think I see myself picking up that one for obvious reasons....I don't like soccer.
