Apparently, he is GONE, and Nate McMillan will be the interim coach!

TURMOIL, I love it. Now if this could just spread to LA and Utah!

Sorry, here is the text to go with the link:SEATTLE (TICKER) -- A stormy relationship with Gary Payton apparently has cost Seattle SuperSonics coach Paul Westphal his job.

ESPNEWS is reporting that the Sonics have fired Westphal and will name former Seattle guard Nate McMillan to replace him.

A Sonics spokesperson said the team has planned a news conference for today at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Westphal has been under fire the past two weeks due to the Sonics' slow start and his fate was likely sealed following a series of recent arguments with the tempermental Payton, the team's point guard.

Seattle (6-9) is in fifth place in the Pacific Division, five games behind the first-place Phoenix Suns.

Westphal, who offered to resign during the first week of the season, was in his third campaign with the Sonics. He replaced George Karl following the Sonics' 61-win season in 1998.

In 1993, Westphal led the Phoenix Suns to the Western Conference finals.

Great Move I say , Nate McMillan knows GP , They played together , Nate was always one of the best defenders in the game and GP learned a few things from him Im sure . If the Sonics get the Chemistry They are looking for the could do a 180 .

Looks like Gary just pulled a Penny..

time. That is a tremendous talent. The combination of Steve and Cuttino, I
think, is wonderful in the backcourt."

So true Juan, when will the Sonics realize it was the moving of Karl that sent them into the perpetual-pergatory.

    You are a wise Juan.

Paul's a great coach but it was obvious he didn't fit with Seattle.

That makes me sick. That A-hole Payton should have been traded. I watch most of the Sonic games, and can see what a jerk Payton really is. All that team's talent, and he has to jack up 40 shots a night. Westphal is not the reason Baker and Ewing are having such bad seasons. Payton is. The Sonics will pay the price.

ZRB: I totally agree. Payton is a total jerk and should be traded away post-haste. I suggest they send his sorry butt to Houston for Williams, Taylor, Rogers, Bullard, and Collier. Realgm.com says that will work.

houston trades: Walt Williams $4,250,000 to seattle
houston trades: Maurice Taylor $2,250,000 to seattle
houston trades: Carlos Rogers $2,200,000 to seattle
houston trades: Matt Bullard $2,100,000 to seattle
houston trades: Jason Collier $1,190,760 to seattle
    TOTAL: $11,990,760
seattle trades: Gary Payton $12,200,000 to houston
    TOTAL: $12,200,000

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to houston and seattle being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. houston and seattle had to be within 15% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    That'll show him! [IMG]

    *****

Seriously, I beg to differ on Westphal being a good coach. His first season with Seattle, the team took a real dive from their 61-win season. Payton gives him a lot of crap, but I think it's because he too knows that Westphal is not a good coach.

Westphal is a great offensive coach. He is definitely not a defensive minded coach. His players have stated exactly that in the past. He would make a great offensive coordinator if the NBA had such a job. [IMG]

did you catch the latest report where Westphal says that Vinny B was the reason he got fired? lol Oooh I sure do wish that Kobe gets traded because Shaq doesn't like him and Karl Malone and DeShawn Stevenson get into a fight and Stockton and Starks do the same. [IMG]

    ------------------
Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
