I just heard over the national news that a teenager is under arrest for animal cruelty. A washeteria security camera caught the teen chasing a dog into the washateria, cornering it and then hitting it 15 times with a baseball bat and dragging the dog's lifeless body out of the washateria. Veterinarians have said that the dog has severe injuries including a shattered jaw...the dog likely will not live. The dog belongs to a 10 year old girl in the neighborhood. The dog had escaped from their yard earlier in the day.

Anybody else thinking this kid needs a whuppin'?

If you were the little girl's Dad would you be tempted to spend a little "quality time" with this guy?

UPDATE: I saw the video. They aired it on Fox. In a word...appalling. You couldn't actually see him hitting the dog...there was a washing machine in the line of sight. You saw the dog run in, followed by the bat weilding kid. Then after a few seconds you actually saw the kid DRAGGING a bloody dog out the door. Disgusting. Appalling. I am SO angry!!!! What makes it worse is that the little girl's daddy has to explain to her why her dog isn't coming home. Heartbreaking. :(

Saying he needs a whuppin is an understatement.

This kid seriously needs to see a juvenile delinquency home for starters although I am inclined to agree with ZRB on this one.

This kid better be glad that I am not this girl's father or he would definitely be in a world of hurt. Disgusting what this punk ass kid did.

I think he should go to jail, but then I also think that animals are killed every day and it's perfectly legal. Does this bother people because the dog was a pet? If it were a stray, how would it be different from slaughtering an innocent cow? Would it make it better if he were to cook the dog afterwards and eat it? I know this is kind've "out there", but seriously, what do you think?

ain't that the truth... i pass freshly killed animals on the roads and sidewalks every morning when I run...

hell, i've even seen cars run over cats in subdivisions, but these people just speed off! its disgusting! the times that has happened, i've stopped my run to see if the animal has a tag, so I can at least inform the person whose pet it may be... (of course I have to hold my nose and try to hold my gag reflex as well! :( )

You really can't see the difference between senselessly torturing an animal (the dog hasn't died...yet) and, in the case of livestock, administering a relatively quick & painless death?

Okay, so what are the penalties by law for torturing a person (but they live) compared to murdering them quick and painlessly? Who would be in more trouble, the person who did the first thing or the one who did the second thing?

    Freak-
The dog was a family pet it was cared for by someone else. Her owner (the little girl) would be traumitized if she actually saw that. She will be traumatized enough hearing that some lil snot nosed punk killed it.
Wheter people admit it or not pets are a major part of peoples families. That is the difference between that dog and a deer or a cow.

I know personally I have punched a neighbor when his two dogs attacked my lab. The dogs didn't know any better but he understood a whole lot better that he needs to keep them on chains.
I could only imagine what I would do if I saw some punk chasing my dog with a bat. I guarantee I would need a real good attorney.

    Freak--

Are you trying to be flippant about this or are you serious? I certainly hope that was your poor attempt at humor. This dog was the extension of somebody's family. A little girl will be emotionally crushed. None of that is the case when old Bessie goes to become a rib eye. To even try to equate the two is ludicrous.

For the record, if I had a 10 year old kid and some guy did that to her dog the very BEST case scenario for that guy would be that he'd be sucking his meals through a straw for awhile.

Just out of curiosity, did the dog reportedly do anything to him beforehand ..like bite him for no reason? You mean to tell me this kid just beat the life out of a dog for no reason whatsoever?

No, not trying to be funny at all, more like struggling with hypocrisy (my own) towards animal cruelty. Like I said, I'd put the guy in jail, even if this weren't someone's pet.

Like I asked in my first post: "Does this bother people because the dog was a pet? If it were a stray, how would it be different from slaughtering an innocent cow?" Since you guys keep bringing up the little girl (rightfully so, she's a big part of this), I can't help but think the sympathy for this dog would be a lot less if it were a stray. Seems to me like all the sympathy's going to the girl, not the real victim.

There was no indication that this dog had been aggressive toward him or anybody else. It appears that the dog was a normal family pet who happened to get out of his yard.

In Harris County you won't find a jury to convict me under these circumstances. :D
