Countries are desperate for population growth to keep economic growth going... the decision to sacrifice a country's culture and safety in order to achieve short term financial objectives is questionable, at best. The real issue is government spending. All of these countries with massive debt levels rely on inflation to "lower" the real value of their debt ("real" being defined in the economic sense -- nominal value less inflation). Inflation also raises tax rates, as more people graduate up the tax brackets, since a dollar is worth less when compensating employees. Trump and Musk will take an axe to government spending -- this is the ONLY WAY to restore power to the people. If not, we will all be slaves to our national debt.
Every country should learn from Milei when it comes to the economy, and from Bukele when it comes to combating gang violence and crime.
European countries aren't soft on migrants because they see it as a way to fix their demographics. They allow the migration out of a misplaced sense of self-righteousness. ^ Those factors may very well end up destroying their societies forever if they aren't careful.
I actually think that's the cover story -- that people are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. I think the actual policy makers are not doing it for this reason -- I think they are doing it for economic and financial reasons. But they frame it up as charity in order to win support from the naive and the feelings-based women + low T men.
I wonder how naive someone has to be to actually believe this. Migrants are always beneficial to the wealthy elite of modern nations states because they are always used as a cheap labor pool especially in countries with declining birth rates. Yo believe that any politician with actual power does a thing because eof self righteousness is incredibly naive.
I see that the anti-immigrant advocates keeps ignoring the fact that immigrants are huge drivers of innovation, new startups, and nearly half of today’s Fortune 500 companies (yes, they founded 219 of the 500). Immigrants contribute significantly to the economy and represent a multi-trillion-dollar gift to the US economy. They are also quick to dismiss that cultures are dynamic and that, historically, immigrants have shown a strong capacity to adapt to their new country’s culture, often integrating over time just as native-born individuals do.
Trump plans to severely restrict legal immigration. All immigrants contribute to the multi-trillion-dollar boost to the US economy.
And there you go... divisiveness, hatred—Vance and Trump. In case it is not clear, the Haitian families are here legally. https://haitiantimes.com/2024/09/11/haitian-immigrants-in-ohio-under-racist-attacks/ Haitian families in Ohio under attack as racist claims spread As false claims spread, the more unsafe Haitian immigrants are feeling Despite officials saying debunked claims by right-wing Republicans are unfounded, many Haitians are feeling physically unsafe as the falsehoods spread online and offline. Meanwhile, the parents of a child killed last year by a Haitian immigrant said politicians like Trump should stop using their child for political gain. The morning after former President Donald Trump repeated racist claims about Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, some Haitian families are keeping their children home from school for their safety, according to an area activist. Those who allowed their children did so, but with heavy hearts. “She [my niece] was scared, but I told her to go, that God would protect,” said one Haitian resident, who asked that she not be identified publicly for fear of reprisal. “We’re all victims this morning,” said the woman, who moved to Springfield six years ago. “They’re attacking us in every way.” Aside from the anxiety caused by Tuesday night’s debate, the woman also said her cars have been vandalized twice in the middle of the night. She woke up one morning to broken windows and another to acid thrown on the vehicle. She’s added cameras to her driveway and tried to report the incidents to the police to no avail. “I’m going to have to move because this area is no longer good for me,” she said. “I can’t even leave my house to go to Walmart. I’m anxious and scared.” The families’ accounts, shared with The Haitian Times under conditions of confidentiality, are the latest tales of intimidation, bullying and assaults against Haitians as anti-Haitian sentiment has gone viral. ...
Lolet I said... The GOP has a new minority group flavor of the month they want to start pogroms with. It's the only politics they have that excite their base voters which is incredibly depressing.
2014 - Springfield was dying (losing population). It welcomed immigrants to settle and migrate there. 2023 - Springfield reaches $1B in tax revenue for the first time in its history, thanks to a growing population (immigrants migrating there). Now, the city might be growing too fast, but that's a better problem than a city dying off. I remember Austin going through rapid growth about 30 years ago, and look where it is today. We’re seeing time and again that immigration in the U.S. is good for the economy, while anti-immigration policies are harmful to it. Of course, Vance and Trump are taking it to a new level. It's not just about anti-immigrant policies (and targeting legal immigrants); it's about spreading hate against them. https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/...migrant-friendly-city/YmnFF8Gu14p1h79QeWRBZL/ July 27, 2014 Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution last week that calls for the city to adopt policies that promote the inclusion and integration of immigrants in the community. Springfield will join other cities like Dayton and Columbus that have formed Welcoming America, a voluntary network of immigrant friendly communities. Last week Cincinnati also launched a new task force on the issue. The city was approached about the legislation by Welcome Springfield, a nonprofit organization founded earlier this year to advocate for new foreign-born residents. With the growing Hispanic population in Springfield, it made sense to pass the resolution, Mayor Warren Copeland said. A proactive approach toward immigrants also can stem population losses that threaten economic stability, the resolution says. “We have these folks in our community and they need to be included and considered part of the community,” Copeland said. It sends a statement both to immigrants and businesses who employ immigrants, said Welcome Springfield Executive Director Carl Ruby, a South Charleston resident. “When it comes to a business deciding whether or not they’re going to expand, the fact that there’s community support for their workforce I think is going to be very helpful,” he said. Ruby has met with Clark County commissioners and hopes they’ll pass a similar resolution in the future. Welcome Springfield is also working with a variety of organizations to help immigrants tackle both health-care and financial literacy challenges. The Ohio Jobs & Justice Political Action Committee, however, believes many of the immigrants aren’t starting businesses and have a difficult time assimilating to the United States. It eventually leads to them accepting social services, founder Steve Salvi said. Salvi called the resolution “an insult” to city residents and said it won’t reverse a declining population. Springfield should work to attract U.S. citizens back to the area. “No one hates immigrants,” Salvi said. “(Residents) are already welcoming. Why do you have to put it down on paper? It just doesn’t make any sense to me.” The vast majority of immigrants are hard-working people who are trying to make a contribution to the community and raise families, Copeland said. “That’s what we want in citizens,” he said. “If they are legal, hard-working citizens following the law, we want to welcome them to Springfield.” https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/...safety-operations/6BBZRNTD5BGM3PNBY4EQOMDKMQ/ June 26, 2023 For the first time in city history, the assessed tax valuation topped $1 billion for 2023, Eviston said to commissioners last week. The previous year’s total was $864 million. Eviston attributed the more than 15% increase year-over-year in tax revenues to the growing tax base being generated by increased property values and the significant economic development the city is experiencing. “The evidence is the city is growing and the value of real estate is growing,” Commissioner David Estrop said. “That’s excellent.”
GOP inciting violence again this time against Haitians. Bomb threats and so on. They know they spread lies and they know it will cause violence. And this makes them happy. The people spreading all these false rumors are the definition of wicked.
