Lankford has been pro open borders POS for years. I think it's some weird tick from him being pro life zealot and thinking immigrants will support that along with open borders being a winner for mega donors.

Lankford is for open borders which is why he's proposing a bill that would literally shut the border down tomorrow if signed into law lol. Politics literally destroys one's brain and its just sad

here's the entirety of the text from your links. please highlight the portion you feel is dispositive.

    ---------

The current situation at the southern border presents a border security and humanitarian crisis that threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency.

    President Donald J. Trump

OVERWHELMING SURGE AT THE BORDER: President Donald J. Trump has warned repeatedly that our border is being overwhelmed and, as the numbers show, that is exactly what is happening.
      • United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) engaged in more than 100,000 border enforcement actions in March – the most for one month in more than a decade.
      • Total enforcement actions were 516 percent higher than in March 2017.
      • Border Patrol apprehensions for this fiscal year, through March, have exceeded the entire fiscal year totals for 2017, 2015, 2012, and 2011.
      • Border Patrol apprehensions increased 38 percent from February to March.
      • An unsustainable number of alien families and children are arriving at the border; these migrants cannot be promptly removed and require extensive care and resources.
      • Sixty-four percent of all border enforcement actions in March were directed to unaccompanied alien children and family units.
      • More than 75,000 migrants were apprehended or deemed inadmissible at the border in February, a disturbing upward trend from monthly totals late last year.
      • The overwhelming surge of migrants has created a system-wide meltdown as resources and personnel at the border are being stretched completely beyond their capacity.
LEADING AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE: President Trump is doing everything within his lawful authority to secure our border and address this growing crisis.

    • President Trump has deployed troops to assist with the situation at the border and is fulfilling his promise to build the wall.
    • The Department of Homeland Security has reassigned CBP officers from ports of entry to assist with the response.
    • The Secretary of Homeland Security has directed immigration agencies to return the maximum possible number of aliens each day to Mexico to await immigration proceedings.
    • Hundreds of aliens can now wait in Mexico while their immigration cases are adjudicated.
    • The Administration secured the first-ever agreement with Northern Triangle countries to help stop caravans from flooding across our border and to combat human smuggling and trafficking.
THE BROKEN SYSTEM DRIVING THIS CRISIS: Congress must act immediately to fix the broken immigration system and address the root causes of the crisis at our border.

    • The broken immigration system is driving more and more unaccompanied alien children and families to make the dangerous trek to our border.
    • In the past, illegal immigration across our southern border was primarily committed by single adult males from Mexico who could be quickly removed, but now most are families and minors from Central America.
    • Currently, we cannot promptly return unaccompanied alien children who arrive at our border from countries other than Mexico and Canada.
    • The Flores settlement agreement and subsequent court rulings have effectively forced the Government to release aliens traveling with a minor after approximately 20 days.
    • Our asylum laws need to be tightened in order to prevent rampant abuse of the system while protecting legitimate asylum seekers.

He's pro amnesty, without a wall the border is not shut down. Any changes are clearly temporary. Amnesty is permanent. We tried this in the 80s. The only people who benefit from immigration are donors looking to suppress wages.

Yes the process we tired earlier did not amend the asylum screening process. This makes the requirements to qualify much much harder versus where they are today. Applicants have to have physical evidence of their lives being threatened without any recourse.

The new standards would mean less than 10-20% qualify versus the much more lax standards today. The law states after 5k encounters a day they would shut the border down. 5k encounters= 20% qualify= 1k a day being admitted into the country. That comes out to 365k migrants a year being allowed.

The civilian workforce number in America is 167 million people which means 365k being admitted is less than. 002% of total workforce which isn't "open borders" lol

Are there any educated smart right wingers left on these boards? Anyone who's not a donk?

In your very post the Trump administration says it needs Congressional action to fix the border
THE BROKEN SYSTEM DRIVING THIS CRISIS: Congress must act immediately to fix the broken immigration system and address the root causes of the crisis at our border.”

A president cannot shut fix the border without Congress. That is true of Biden as it was of a Trump.

Sort of - but that appears to be a distortion of the quote. He asked the Governor of Texas to stop sending migrants to Illinois so that they do not freeze to death because of the weather situation in the Chicagoland area.

Having said that - there is a certain amount of irony that people and politicians in places like Chicago and New York were very critical of the treatment of those at the Southern border, and when they receive a small percentage of the asylum seeks, they claim they cannot handle them. I had that discussion with my wife that for some reason cannot seem to understand the double standard of the situation.

Having said that - a lot of this is that the two major US political parties are not addressing the issues that really are important, from the housing costs to immigration, to social security, etc. Instead they are too busy engaged in social wars - and that includes the Governor of Texas.

No - this didn't "just get real".

This is the same tired BS that Abbott and other Texas politicians resort to because they don't actually do anything positive or beneficial for the state.

Abbott can just throw red meat on the fire and enough morons will eat it up to keep him in office.

All it does is make Abbott look like an ineffectual moron that cannot stand up to piss, but somehow things a "firmly " worded letter will do anything.

Yeah - almost as bad as the Governor of Texas writing fan fiction to the President of the United States rather than actually addressing or solving any of the issues in Texas.

    It is all worthless fanfare.

We saw some prominent Democratic leaders doing it while Trump was in office as well.

Well, the POTUS can try. But the reality is, even Trump realized he cannot just close down the southern border. That's a hard reality for Basso and others to swallow. But then reality is optional for many of these folks.
