Why would President Biden talk to him? NYC is far from the worst hit city when it comes to illegal immigration/refugees. I get that mayor doesn't want to deal with it, and isn't used to this - but he can just let them out in the streets if he wants. Within 3 months 90% of the adult males will have employment, and the women and children will have received social services help and have places to live - assuming they even stay in New York.

I just don't have a lot of empathy for NYC over all of this.

My social media algorithm is full of right wing conservatives building their real estate wealth from immigrant labor. They're paying them $5 an hour and recording themselves feeding them a $7 pizza as if they should receive a Nobel peace prize.

The USA certainly hasn't done any favors to the Venezuelan economy, but it has largely sank on it's own. It was a corrupt dictatorship under Chavez and it is even worse under Maduro. The wealthiest people in Venezuela are the relatives of Chavez and Maduro ---- just the continuation of the same sad story. I did not support everything under Caldera. There was too much corruption, and special interests profiting off the oil in Venezuela and it was still too hard for those born poor to move up in society. However, Venezuela is objectively worse under Maduro.

Venezuela has also traditional had highs and lows because of gas prices.

Also, it isn't just "US corporations" that want to pay low wages - that is the case across the board in the world.

Last - yes there is certain a strain of George Wallace and the boogie man with immigrant workers, but I would say that it isn't entirely that simple. There are a lot of blue collar workers, including Hispanics, that do not want to compete with a new labor source willing to do the job for half the pay.

It is a federal responsibility - but no one gives a **** what Andrew Cuomo's opinion on the issue is.

Yes, DHS is absolutely overworked. Also, what happened to the $4.5 billion spent on operation Lone Star, enabling the Texas National Guard and Texas State Guard to transport any migrant to a DHS facility for processing and either release or deportation? What happened to the money allocated to arresting migrants for tresspassing? Anyhow, I think this is kind of a show and not the whole truth, because most if not all of those filmed will eventually be processed as there are many interior checkpoints. State and national officers are everywhere down there, but still overwhelmed.

There should still be some money left.

As of April 2022, OLS was spending approximately $2.5 million per week and was expected to cost approximately $2 billion per year.[3]

Mayor adams has been claiming for months now that the migrant crisis is happening cuz the WH isnt giving TPS to the migrants. Adams claims once they get this status then they can start working and get off the streets.

Biden just issued TPS for 400k Venezuelans who have been here since 2021 whom can now get work permits. IL governor was asking for this as well.

Everyone gets exactly what they want from this ****. The cartel gets paid to smuggle these innocent folks. Foxnews and twitter influencers get their spicy video of tens of thousands of folks gathering up. Republicans get to blame Biden. Biden then has to deport all these people which none of these losers ever show and then the activists blame biden for being too harsh on them.

Its a lose lose situation. Why would congress ever fix the problem? They know Biden has to deport all of them out so why provide extra funding? Republicans want these sort of chaos videos so they can blame the government. Nobody has any incentive to fix the system because theres always low iq clowns like @Astrodome who will always search for this sort of stuff.

The only people that suffer are those migrants who end up getting deported

DHS is absolutely overworked, so clearly it's time to shut down the government and give those poor, exhausted DHS workers a much-needed break.

ps. The admin has asked for 3.5 Billion more in funding for DHS and border security and management. We all know who said no.

According to the WSJ, there is no indications that it is working. Similar reports from other news articles.

I think all the money thrown at the problem, if not used in a coordinated national way, is mostly wasted. Even if it's done in a coordinated national way, it is still likely very inefficient without policy changes that address the reality of why people are entering, including the pull from America's underground migrant worker system. Everyone knows the system is broken and instead of making changes to fix a broken system, all these band-aids are likely temporary, ineffective and inefficient. As a TX resident, I certainly do not want to throw $10B over 5 years at these mostly likely wasteful efforts, but that's where we are heading. Maybe, just maybe, the government of TX will realize the waste and change course and push for comprehensive immigration reform. Doubtful though.

Too many people want to politicize the issue for their own benefit. Reagan was the last president to really get through a comprehensive immigration bill that addressed many of these issues. That was almost 40 years ago.

Since then we’ve seen more problems in parts of this hemisphere driving the demand for immigration. At the same time many in the business community are more than happy to hire migrant labor including our last President, even as he was making ludicrous promises about a wall that Mexico would pay for.

we still have many politicians pushing simplistic solutions like walls and engaging in stunts like flying migrants to Martha’s Vineyard rather than working on a comprehensive solution.
