Who do you pull for in the playoffs when you hate everyone? The trick is to look deeper than the winner of an individual series. Let's first take a look at the Lakers-Suns matchup.
The Suns are the team I hate the least and that is only because Danny Ainge retired. However it is unlikely that they will beat the Lakers. To extend that point, let's just assume that the Lakers are going to win the championship. Assuming the obvious makes it that much more exciting if something crazy happens.
Now that brings me to real reason behind this thread. Jazz-Blazers. This one is easier than it looks. We all hate the Jazz because they are, well, the JAZZ. The reason we really hate the Blazers is mostly because of Pippen, and partly beacuse of their money(it's ok to be jealous). I would like to see the Jazz lose because I can't stand watching them play. They've already had so much publicity over the years that it really doesn't bother me that much. The pain is in watching that flopping band of Supercut rejects flail about the court. So in this situation I can stomach a Blazer win. Especially when (now this is the sweet part)the reward is getting to watch Bryant spank Pippen's a** all over the court. This has even bigger repurcussions if you dig deeper. If the Blazers fail this year then they will be broken up. The only problem is that no one will want a $15m backup SF. This will leave Pippen's whiney a** on a rebuilding team for years to come.
Now I know that in this scenario the Lakers get all the bullsh*t hype going into next season. But think about it. They are going to get 50 NBC sunday afternoon games already, so why not let them have a trophy. This will bring a large audience in to watch the Franchise dunk all over Shaq, Kobe and the role players in some of those games(I know this is stretching it a bit but what the hell).
Now I could get into the Eastern teams but to be honest, I really don't care. As long as it's not the Knicks. Hopefullt this will give everyone a fresh perspective on what's left of the NBA season.

I forgot to add this and I have no idea how to edit.
The Lakers will get no better than they already are. They have no cap room and no one of any value to trade with. Let them have a year and then they can get knocked out next year by some young, upstart team(Rockets would go well here). And then Zen-boy will retire beacuse it's no fun coaching when you actually have to work at it(one more reason to respect Rudy). I think that's enough reasons for now, but I'd love to hear some of yours.

Question: how do you solve a solution?

'sauce, you have inspired me. I didn't know what to think about the Jazz-Portland matchup, but now I have seen the light. I want the Jazz to be completely humiliated and ejected in the second round. Then I want the Lakers to pull the Blazers apart. It would make for a good series anyway- certainly better than whatever the finals matchup will be. I don't like the Lakers, but nothing could be more satisfying than watching the most-expensive-team-in-history experiment fail utterly. Especially if Kobe humiliates Pippen like he has been, and especially if Pippen shows his true colors and starts pointing fingers and passing blame around the team. Excellent.

this is amazing Rocketsauce... everything now makes sense. Rather than going through the pain of pulling for the underdog, and getting disappointed time and time again, I'll just pull for the Lakers and glorify in the destruction of the overpaid Blazers and the flopping Jazz. The more series the Jazz play, anyway, the more fans across the country hear broadcasters making fun of the Jazz style of play.

The bandwagon is safe... the bandwagon is good.

or how about rooting for a Los Angeles earthquake, nobody gets injured except the empty stadium and all of NBCs permanently installed cameras, mikes, and the highly acclaimed holographic projection announcer--Peter Vescey. Sterns then decides after half of NBC's assets are decimated that they are simply going to have to cancel the rest of the season. Then, Sprewell loses it while explaining how they could play in NY instead and starts choking Sterns. Not so surprisingly, Marv Albert jumps Sprewell and starts gnawing on his back to make sure Sterns lives another season to sign his checks...Yeeessssssssssss!

Solution solved...Vescey, Sterns, Albert and Sprewell are fall by the wayside and Lakers get a tainted asterix as champion in a season with no Finals.

Would NBC cut to a white Bronco driving down the freeway if the Lakers are playing in the NBA Finals?

    Which is better?

    A. Portland losing to Utah and being left with the fact that all the talent on paper doesn't necessarily translate into a championship. Not to mention being left with an aging SF with a huge contract. (Utah eventually losing to LA).

    B. Utah winning in 7 long, hard games against Portland, then getting swept by LA. Utah left with the feeling that no matter how talented they are, there is at least one team that is better than them EVERY year.

    C. Knicks getting swept by LA in the finals. Ewing getting close AGAIN, but losing AGAIN.

    D. Knicks not even making it to the finals and Ewing not even getting close.

    E. A and C
    F. A and D
    G. B and C
    H. B and D
    I. Other (explain)

    Please use a #2 pencil.

Would you be willing to do a sing-and-trade for Adonal Foyle if it meant a 7 percent chance that it would solve all our solutions?

I'm more interested in probing problems than solving solutions, but I'll hum a few bars of Moonlight Bay to effect the trade. [IMG]

Only if he studied statistics at Colgate. However I would have to elevate his percentage of solving my proposed solution if we could somehow sign & trade orbit for Mr. Foyle. In case everyone hasn't realized it yet I mad a big boo boo when creating this thread. I never thought much of grammer anyhow. [IMG]
