    Public
    Anne Arundel County:
    • Through Friday, Oct. 25, all outdoor activities (practices and events) must conclude by 6 p.m.
    • For this week, indoor events (after-school and evening) may proceed at the previously scheduled time.
    • Decisions regarding outdoor activities on Saturday, Oct. 26, will be made later this week.
    • Details of the restrictions are available on the school system's Web site at www.aacps.org.

    Calvert County:
    • Police surveillance will continue.
    • School buildings will be secured. A single main entrance should remain open. All other exterior doors should be locked. All visitors must report to the main office.
    • There will be no outside activities (recess or physical education) during the day.
    • Increased supervision will be provided to students traveling to and from any transportable classrooms.
    • Field trips to county destinations are permitted. All other field trips will be rescheduled or canceled.
    • Vocational/technical classes will continue as scheduled.
    • Kindergarten classes will be conducted as scheduled. If no adult is present at a bus stop, kindergartners will be returned to their school.
    • Dismissals will proceed as usual.
    • All after-school activities will continue as usual. All student activities, excluding games, should conclude by 5:30 p.m. Any activities involving students and parents or just parents may continue beyond the 5:30 p.m. curfew.
    • Students will not be penalized for not participating in after-school activities.

    Charles County:
    • Heightened level of security.
    • Sheriff’s officers and Maryland State Police officers will be visible at each school and during scheduled activities.
    • After school activities are scheduled to continue as usual.

    Frederick County:
    • All school doors are locked and only authorized individuals are allowed in the building.
    • No students are allowed outside for classes, recess or lunch.
    • It is "business as usual" within the buildings and portables.
    • All instructional programs and extracurricular activities beyond the usual school day will operate as usual.
    • Parents may take their children from school at any time.
    • Students whose parents do not wish them to participate in after-school activities will not be penalized.
    • Students exiting and boarding buses at schools are closely supervised.
    • Field trips and other student program decisions are at the principal's discretion. Trips to the Washington D.C. area are postponed.

    Howard County:
    • All HCPSS schools remain on modified lockdown.
    • After-school and evening activities in HCPSS facilities will be held. This includes high school interscholastic athletic practices, games, and marching band practices. Parents may exclude their children from extracurricular activities without penalty.
    • Field trips will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Work study and mentorships have resumed.
    • Police presence at school buildings will continue as long as deemed necessary by the chief of police. Police will provide regular coverage at high school athletic events.

    Montgomery County:
    • Schools are operating under a Code Blue status.
    • All after-school activities must be completed by 5:30 p.m. Activity buses will operate no later than that time.
    • Students participating in after-school activities are not to be permitted to leave the school and return later; these students should remain at school until the activity is completed.
    • All kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes, including Head Start and EEEP programs, will be held.
    • All indoor community activities will proceed as scheduled this afternoon and evening. All indoor evening activities for students have been canceled.
    • Outdoor student and community activities at schools during the day and evening are canceled. This includes outdoor recess, physical education, open lunch for high school students, and field trips in the Washington area.
    • Schools will continue to keep exterior doors locked and monitor visitors.
    • Classes will be held as scheduled, including those in portable buildings, and students will be permitted to move about under the monitoring of teachers and administrators.
    • Students who are in the Fundamental Life Skills programs in special education will not be able to participate in community activities and will remain at school.
    • All professional development activities during the school day for school-based staff are canceled.

    City of Gaithersburg:
    • The city has canceled all outdoor activities for this afternoon and this evening.
    • Indoor recreation classes, sports and after-school activities will be held as scheduled.
    • The Gaithersburg Youth Center, Kentlands Mansion, Bohrer Park Activity Center and other City facilities will remain open today according to their regular hours.

    Prince George's County:
    • Schools are operating under a Code Blue status. • There will be a high police presence at all schools.
    • Students will remain indoors throughout the school day.
    • Transportation for pre-kindergarten and work study programs are on normal schedule. Before and After School Care will remain open until 6 p.m.
    • Field trips to Owens Science Center are allowed. All other field trips (including Schmidt Center), outdoor and after-school activities for children have been canceled.

    St. Mary's County:
    • In-county and out-of-county field trips are canceled until further notice.
    • Outdoor activities during the school day, including recess, are also canceled until further notice.
    • After school, evening, and weekend activities will continue.
    • Parents may elect to exclude their children from these activities with no penalties. However, students who attend the evening high school are required to attend all sessions unless evening high school classes are canceled.

    Private
    Barrie School, Silver Spring:
    Closed today.

    Washington Christian Academy, Silver Spring:
    Closed today.


    D I S T R I C T S C H O O L S

    D.C. Public:
    • Schools are open today as scheduled.
    • Until further notice, all recess activities, field trips and open lunches are canceled.
    • There will be no bus transportation for special education students Wednesday, but charter buses will run.
    • All afternoon outdoor interscholastic sports and outdoor activities are canceled. With appropriate supervision, indoor activities and practices will proceed.

    Archdiocese of Washington Schools:
    • For this week, schools in Montgomery County will follow the opening and operations guidelines of the Montgomery public schools, while schools in Prince George's County and the District will follow the guidelines of the Prince George's County public schools. CYO will make a decision on a daily basis.

    Alexandria:
    • Outside recess, outside physical education classes, outside athletic practices and events and field trips are suspended through Thursday.

    Arlington County:
    • Schools will continue the suspension of all outdoor recess, outdoor physical education classes, outdoor sporting events and practices, and field trips through Thursday, Oct. 24.

    Fairfax County:
    • Schools will open on time; student attendance is expected.
    • All outdoor activities, including interscholastic games and practices and other student events, physical education classes and recess will be held indoors or postponed.
    • Indoor activities, including indoor practices, dances and craft fairs will be held at the discretion of the principal.
    • There will be no field trips within the Washington metropolitan area.
    • All FCPS Adult & Community Education classes are being held as scheduled, with the following two exceptions:
    1) Behind-the-Wheel driving classes are canceled and will resume when FCPS outdoor activity restrictions are lifted and
    2) History-on-Location classes are canceled.

    Falls Church:
    • Until further notice, there will be no outdoor activities. • Decisions on field trips and athletic trips to be made on a case-by-case basis.

    Fauquier County:
    • All outside activities during and after school, and field trips canceled until further notice.

    Loudoun County:
    • LCPS schools will not hold any outside activities through Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002. Scheduled practices may be held if they are moved inside the school building.
    • Proper supervision will be provided as students depart at the end of any practices or after-school events that are held inside LCPS buildings.
    • This outside cancellation applies to all school levels, all practices, all games, and all field trips to outdoor activities involving Loudoun County Public School students

    Manassas Park City Schools:
    • Schools are scheduled to open on time this morning but will remain in a limited lock down status.
    • No field trips, no outside activities, etc. until further notice. A
    • All exterior doors will remain locked and visitors must show identification prior to entering the buildings.

    Manassas City Public Schools:
    • Schools will remain in limited lock down status until further notice.
    • All outdoor activities and field trips are canceled.
    • All extracirricular activities and athletic activities will take place inside.
    • There will be no field trips and no outdoor activities.
    • Indoor activities will be held as normal during the school day.
    • The Metz Middle School Band Concert scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

    Prince William County:
    • All outside activities are canceled until further notice. Indoor activities will be held.
    • All field trips scheduled for today have been canceled.

    Richmond Public Schools:
    Schools will be open. Outdoor and evening activities are canceled.

    Spotsylvania County:
    • Until further notice, all schools continue to be locked-down.
    • Students will be kept inside the school buildings. Students and staff will be free to move about inside the building as usual. All classes will be held according to the school’s daily schedule.
    • Outdoor after-school activities will be canceled or moved inside. This includes athletic practices, club meetings, etc. Those activities that can be conducted inside will be moved.
    • All doors (including the front entrance to the school building) will be kept locked.
    • The credentials of all visitors to schools will be closely checked unless the office staff positively recognizes that person.
    • All field trips have been canceled.

    Stafford County:
    • Until further notice, all outside activities must be moved inside or canceled.
    • All schools continue to have a heightened sense of awareness and security.
    • The Stafford County Sheriff’s Department continues to provide officers at all schools during arrival and dismissal times.
    • All visitors must present proper identification at the front entrance.
    • Field trips to the north are canceled. Field trips to indoor sites within Stafford County and field trips to points south (indoor or outdoor) are permitted at the principal’s discretion.
    • Athletic events are being rescheduled, moved to a neutral site outside the county or canceled. The cross-country district meet will be held at Albemarle High School on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
    • The field hockey district tournament will be held next week at Albemarle High School. The volleyball season continues. Home football games will be held at alternate sites away from the area when possible.
