I freak out every time I see a snake. It doesn't matter how small it is, it still scares the crap out of me especially when I see it in the house. Just a few minutes ago I noticed my cat slapping at the carpet in the living room. I clapped my hands to get him to stop because I thought he slapping one of the kittens I'm foster caring. I come over to him to get him away and I see a freaking snake. I think it's a Ribbon Snake but I'm not sure. (I never think about taking a picture of it until it's too late) It was about 6 inches long, black or dark green with two thin yellow stripes going the length on it's body and a little yellow dot on the top of it's head. This is the second snake found in the house in about three months. I didn't find the first so I'm not sure what kind it was. My girlfriend found it in the bedroom curled up by the bathroom door. A couple weeks ago she saw a snake (like the one found today) on the side of the house that she says was about a foot and half long. Then a week ago I saw one in the back yard that was close to foot long. Now I'll be wondering all night how long has it been in, are there any more, how in hell are they getting in............I don't like snakes Anyone else find any snakes in their home?
That sucks. BADLY. I don't have snakes..luckily..but there was a spider on my arm and that freaked me out. Disgusting. I dislike snakes.
Yes it did but the stripes look like they may be a little wider than the one found today. That could be because it was a younger snake though.
That's a Garter snake. This is a ribbon snake... They are both harmless, but will emit a foul order if frightened. The Garter snake can bite but its bite is no more painful than a bee sting. But usually you can handle them both with no problems!
The picture or the Ribbon snake looks just like it complete with yellow dot on the head. Good to know they're harmless.

To discourage snakes from coming inside your home: -- Keep your basement dry. Finer screens can be applied to basement vents if snakes are a real problem in your area. -- All doors should be weather stripped. -- Keep snakes away from the house by placing mothballs or sulfur under steps and baseboards.
