I'm trying to figure out how it has not been cancelled yet

    *sigh*
I watch it to try and see if it will get better
    but
    alas it does not . . .

I have the first 2 seasons somewhere. I'm way behind in like season 4 or something and probably not going to watch anything new. Anyone care to tell what has happened since then? What is this, season 8 now? The last episode I watched was Clark battling his dad who had temporary powers given from his real father. I know I can read the episode recaps, but that takes forever...I'm just looking for 3 or 4 sentences.

i use to watch smallville but i can't stand the hokey dialog. every sentence has got to be sass. i.e. instead of simply saying, "i'm getting coffee" it's gotta something like... "i need my fix of java before i crash like a wingless parrot"... every freak'n sentence.

 epitomizes why I've stayed away from CW/WB/UPN programs. leave the snappy dialog for Entourage or a show like that.

but it has an excuse since comic book dialog can approach silly level

I used to be crazy about Kristen Kreuk (sp) back then when the show first came out. Then the show went downhill after the first season.. then I switched girls after The Gilmore Girls came out.

Season four just ended and it's been announced that Michael Rosenbaum (who plays Lex Luthor) and Kristin Kreuk will not be back next season.

We've already seen how Kreuk is being written out. It will be interesting to see how they write out Luthor.

Bingo. It hasn't been the same since. That's what happens in the story line of Superman but John Schneider(Jonathan Kent) added a lot of charisma to Smallville.

YES! YES! YES! This is why I suddenly quit watching during the middle of episode 3 and DVR'd the next 18-19 before viewing them all in a hurry and catching up near the end of the season. The dialog and the acting are just bad. Thing is, I think Kristin Kreuk (pathetic) and Michael Rosenbaum are two of the worst actors on the show. Their leaving is a good thing. John Glover's acting blew everyone else away. It was a mistake to kill him off.

I'm hoping next season is bearable since (I think) the writers know it's the last season. Kind of like what's happening on BSG.

You are a few seasons off. Season 7 just ended. FYI, season 4 is considered the worst. I've watched since the beginning and the show has had its ups and downs, mostly downs. I am a huge Superman fan and that is why I've continued to watch. Clark and Lana's relationship killed the show. Drawn out over 7 seasons, a few dozen cheesy break-ups between the two has made the show pretty unwatchable. And the dialog does get worse every season. I will watch season 8 just to see how it ends, but without much anticipation.

I disagree.. I think it was less interesting early on.. when it was more villian-a-week-centric..

i think the show started comming into it's own around the latter part of the fourth season.. because it wasn't until the episode "Blank".. that I developed any sort of interest in the show that before I just couldn't bear.. been following it episode to episode ever since.. well.. up until this season..

seems to've been losing it's charm mid-seven season to now..

they killed him off..? must've been one of the newer episodes I've missed.. tsk tsk. just get's worse and worse for Smallville..

and to those who commented on John Schneider.. really? his departure spelt the shows impending downfall to you..? the best acting he ever did on that show was his exit scene.. before that.. Annette O'toole came off oscar worthy in comparison..

This is kind of a question about overlapping genres, so hopefully one of you guys can tell me. How was James Marsters as Brainiac? He might have been the best actor on Buffy, but who knows if it was just a great character.

I watched season one of Smallville and probably a couple eps in season 2 but it didn't hold my interest once they got outside the monster of the week eps. It was like Superman's Creek and all I wanted was a live comic book.

Is going through cycles of horrible seasons followed by a few good episodes. It won't be the same w/o Michael Rosenbaum.

I only watched (and only tidbits) because if Kristin Kreuk.

very hot scenes of her, first having a shower and discover a tattoo, then swimming in underwear, (very hot scenes)

Best episodes were with Christopher Reeve (Swann). I just want to see how it all ends.

I'm almost 100% sure none of those scenes is her. It's instead a body double in all such scenes. If you re-watch and pay attention to the camera cuts, you will never see a continuous pan from her face to the body in those scenes. There's always a camera cut in between the transition from face to body and vice versa.
