Anyone else getting this game? It comes out the 28th and it looks like it will be good. All the initial reviews I have seen have been real good. One point that was made was that in most WWE you get either a good CAW or a good season mode, never both. Supposedly HCTP will have excellent versions of both. You can fight Elimination Chamber matches, Bra & Panties matches as well as the old favorites. They will have over 70 wrestlers to choose from including a bunch of classic wrestlers to unock, like Sgt. Slaughter, The Road Warriiors, George Steele, Iron Sheik, Jimmy Snuka and Nikolai Volkoff. If this game lives up to the hype it will be the best wrestling game made to date.
I'ma get this game.I read in PSM magazine that there are close to 200 different story lines that affect your wrestling during season mode. That adds alot of replay value to the game.It also have some legends from the past and new grappling/submission system. What a great 2 weeks for game releases.First nba live 2004,next espn nba basketball, and then ssx3,followed by smackdown HCTP.And in 2 weeks the gta3 killer, true crime will come out.
You know I'll be at Wal-Mart come Tuesday morning. After that, we'll have EA Big's NWA-TNA Xplosion to look forward to.
Hell yes!!! The CAW in Shut Your Mouth was fantastic. You could make anyone from Spider-Man to friggin' Krang. I read a preview that said the CAW is pretty much ported over part-for-part with some additions. As long as they still have the nWo theme music, and kept the models for the dropped old-school Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior, I'll be happy. And Darkside Undertaker is in! How cool is that?!
I'm definitely getting it. My boy Rey Mysterio's in there, and they got a bunch of new match types...but I probably won't get it til Christmas
I had forgotten about the new grapple system. For anyone that is interested it will work kind of like this: No longer will wrestlers like Rey-Rey be able to pick up and slam wrestlers like Big Show. You will have limitations due to size and weight. Equally Show will not be able to perform moves like the huracanrana. Also you will be able to focus on a particular body part. If you have a submission style wrestler and his finisher is the figure four. You can work on the knees and legs to soften them up. This creates a better chance of getting a submission win. Grapplers will also suffer fatiguew if they are being pounded on.
Do you know if they fixed the submission holds? In Shut Your Mouth you would only have a hold locked in for a second or two, almost like it was an impact move, and the whole struggle of a wrestler having to get to the ropes to break it was omitted.
I am almost positive it is fixed. In fact I am pretty sure the working over a body part has an affect on how long you hold a move locked in and the opponents ability to ge tout of it. I may be mistaken but I think that is how it is going to work.
My brother is a huge wrestling fan and has been checking up on the game daily. The grapple system is majorly different, as you "lock up" and then do a move. Submissions you can hold for longer and body parts wear down. CAW mode, you can choose entrance and ring attire. Legends in the game include Hawk(RIP), Animal, Sgt. Slaughter, among others. Ultimate Warrior was originally slated but later scratched, his attire will probably be on the game though.
Don't the WrestleMania and RAW franchises for GC and X-Box leave season mode out altogether? SYM's career mode was only two years anyway, and all the storylines were used the first time you went through. A shorter season also should come in handy if you want to pull wrestlers out or edit the roster as there's less stuff you have to go through if you don't want to reset everyone's points.
I cannot speak for the X-Box version (though I have heard a ton of people that hated it) but the GC version did not have a season mode. They substituted it with the crappy revenge mode which I did not like at all. SYM career mode lacked Depth it may have been 2 years worth but once you played through 2 years you didn't need to play through it again because it was always the same thing. One year doesn't seem bad. With all the storylines I would think you would be willing to re-play that one season over and over to see the different angles play out. I personally feel like I would get bored playing the same wrestler through 2 seasons. It would seem to get old real fast if I played a guy that won the WWE Title the first week. Also that one tear could be long if it includes Heat/Smackdown/Raw and the PPV's. On another note does anyone know the official in-store date? IGN says the 27th, but EB says it ships the 27th which would put it in stores the 28th.
It doesn't hit stores until tomorrow. I called the store where I pre-ordered and they said they would have it around 10:30 tomorrow morning. CK
I broke down and got it today. First impressions: Opening presentation seems to have taken a minor step down graphically, but perhaps for the better. Instead of photos for wrestlers on the vs. screens you get animated models. Don't know if this works for created wrestlers too, but it sure would beat that shadowy generic portrait in the previous games... Match presentation is awesome. The crowd looks much better, and there is a lot of interaction with it like the old Attitude game on N64 (they started a "Rocky sucks" chant!!!). Sadly, the new counter system is going to be a b**** to get used to (for me at least). Instead of relying on the square button, you now have to alternate between L2 and R2 depending on what type of attack you are trying to block. It's borrowed some stuff from Wrestlemania 2000/No Mercy as well (you can now drag the opponents body around). Further review later. Will probably be up all night with this baby...
I got it but Ihave not had a lot of time to play. I started a season and won the tag titles on my first nite w/ SCSA and a created guy that I made in about 3 minutes. When I get a bit more time to play, I'll put up a better review. CK
More random thoughts: The weight detection has some flaws (HBK not able to suplex Undertaker? sure...). The new backstage areas are even funner to mess around in than SYM's. The modified grappling and submission systems are excellent. IMHO, it doesn't have the character that SYM did, dropping the individual replay value somewhat but as a multiplayer, it should be superior. The absence of Hogan and Warriror really hurts the Legends rosters. They're easy enough to make in CAW mode though... Still no excuse for leaving out all of their entrance themes. WWE still owns the rights to the vintage stuff. Experience points for raising your stats is a welcome addition. The least amount of cheap moments I've ever experienced in a wrestling game. Too easy at times, but it's better than being impossibly hard or getting booked in three-on-one matches. The Rock's moveset ****ing owns. Haven't gotten too into the CAW mode yet, but it's nearly identical to SYM which is great.
