Saturday October 28 3:51 PM ET 76ers Sign Vernon Maxwell PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia 76ers, looking for a guard to replace injured rookie Speedy Claxton, signed Vernon Maxwell on Saturday. Maxwell, who played for Seattle last season, returns to Philadelphia, where he spent the 1995-96 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Claxton, the Sixers' first-round pick, sustained a season-ending knee injury last Sunday. Maxwell averaged 10.9 points in 47 games last season with the SuperSonics. In his 12-year career, he has averaged 13.2 points and 3.5 assists.
