is it worth it? what plan do you have? do they have a radio that you can mount in your car but also unmount and take in your house too?
I just subscribed recently, I haven't had issues with it. I bought this $50 in-vehicle radio but you can't take it off and use it externally. They do have a web player that you can listen to on the net or with a mobile app for an extra $2.99 on top of the package you'll have for the car or in-home radio. Right now I pay $7.99 a month... but the normal price is $12.99 a month. I definitely think its worth it if you're a regular radio listener. It's not mainstream music and the some of the shows are awesome. I think they have a free trial for the web player that you can try out if you want to check out what they offer.
I don't believe the web player allows you to listen to all the stations... it also used to be free with your subscription... I've been with XM and now Sirius/XM for about 6-7 years and love it. It's especially good on long roadtrips I take. I only have it in my car. At home, I can find other things to entertain me, so I don't plan on forking over another subscription fee just to listen at home. Not to mention the reception inside buildings and under trees or people taller than 5'9" isn't great.
Been with Sirius for ages, switched to just XM when I got a car that came with a XM radio, and really couldnt see paying the extra amount to keep the portable Sirius radio. It is most definitely worth it....there are times when I am driving a half hour plus round town and I never hear a bad song...unlike the local stations who have to fit in all different sorts of music on one channel versus the 6 different rock stations I listen to on XM. If you are into hard rock, it is the only place to listen to that kind of rock, there are no local hard rock stations and classic rock stations dont play hard enough music. Boneyard, Octane and Hair Nation FTW!
I used to have a portable (S50) with car mount and home dock with Sirius. Preferred the content, mostly because of Stern but also because the NFL games (and it would remind you a game was coming on). My car has XM. I enjoy it as well, just not quite as much as Sirius. It is really good for long trips, since you don't have to hunt for stations.
I got the XM/Pioneer Inno in '06 to primarily listen at home, paid full price and the douchebag at CompUSA never got me the car kit. I had ground floor apartments for three years and was always able to get enough clear sky that the antenna got a good signal. But once I moved into my new place in 2010, could never get a consistent feed and had to cancel it outright. Get a Delphi repeater for extra distance in-house, and some headphone antennas for outside. I miss Bloomberg, BBC and especially Virus 202, kinda tough to get any of those in corn country.
I would hope with them charging for it, they'd figure out how to keep a constant stream without cutting out every few minutes "due to inactivity."
few questions: you pay for a radio/receiver one time fee right? theres no monthly fee for the receiver itself right? then you just choose the monthly plan and thats applied to your credit card every month or whatever plan you choose right? i'm looking at the xm onyx radio and it looks like some of radios, like the onyx have special pricing plans, but i was wondering if theres a way to tell which package/stations you are getting with it. cant seem to find it listed on sirius webpage.
When I got my car back in 08 it came with a year subscription to Sirius, and I got totally hooked. I've since renewed the subscription and it is totally worth every penny. I seriously haven't turned on FM radio in a couple of years.
I think its worth it. I have XM with the Best of Sirius package so I can get Stern, etc. too. There is no monthly fee for the receiver. The receiver is owned by you.
I have Sirius...came with my truck. I subscribed monthly after the free period ran out. It's about $16/month and I love it. Austin local radio, outside of KGSR, is terrible. Plus, I can at least listen to the Texans games that aren't picked up on tv locally.
i love it- listen to the IP stream @ 128k on my Transporter- sounds better than FM. usually listen to The Loft, Real Jazz, and Met Opera stations. easily worth it.
Worth it if you don't have a smartphone and and good 3G coverage (never stream Last.fm at EDGE speeds).
I definitely think its worth it. Every now and again they have a lifetime subscription for like $300. When the time is right, I'm probably going to end up doing that. Its especially huge on road trips.
