Man, tried to cancel my subscription - just don't need it anymore and $15 a month is just too much for stuff you can get on your phone.

I kept trying to cancel until I got them down to $5 a month and I was like....fine....

Anyone else try to deal with them? Did you get a better deal?

Nice deal. I generally use my phone for music, even while in my truck. Although the Sirius / xm would be more convenient.

I play the game with them every 6 months. I'm currently paying essentially $5/month for the full package. I think I'll be doing it again soon as my current 6 mo. deal is about to expire in August.

I was going to drop it for the same reason you mentioned but I really love the new Tom Petty channel and that alone is worth $5/month.

I don't like listening to music on satellite. the sound is way too thin, sounds terrible. It's best for talkshows.

I agree about the sound quality.

I canceled mine about two years ago. But had they have went down to $5 a month I definitely would've kept it.

lols...I was going to post the same thing. Tried to cancel, and they said, "OK, we have a note for you to cancel. Just log in at the end of the month and do it." I said, "Well, my login doesn't actually work...never has. So, since I have you on the phone...can you just cancel for me." Then they put me on hold for 20 minutes or so before they gave me a confirmation #. But still said, it will still be active until end of month.

    whatever

I think I should check to see if it did indeed cancel at end of June, but car was in the shop for first week of July, so forgot.

I do the same exact thing. Every 6 months I call and tell them I'm cancelling unless they renew me for $5 a month. Works every time.

They make you put down a credit card now so you get auto billed if you forget to cancel/haggle.

Lol...they wouldn't pick up the phone for 30 minutes and would hang up on me when trying to cancel.

Funny thing is that they accidentally forwarded me to their subscription department to start a new service and they answered in 15 seconds.

One of the worst companies in terms of customer service I've ever had to deal with.

It's a dying company. Satellite radio made sense before the growth of cellular data and smartphones. There's no growth prospects for them anymore. Being able to stream music off of your phone pretty much ruined their business model. They're struggling to maintain their existing subscriber base and have zero chance of any real growth anymore. Even in rural areas, they're losing customers and satellite radio is almost mandatory in rural communities because of the lack of radio coverage. As long as cellular companies keep building out coverage and bandwidth, the satellite radio industry will continue to wither away.

I basically only use it for talk shows. Almost entirely sports. Some comedy. Some news.

They could focus on just that, and eventually make a savvy acquisition or two in the podcast space and that could be a sustainable path.

I was able to cancel the account earlier this week with little to no problem. They just did the automatic annual renewal but then just prorated the $13 for the month.

I've always had that. I just put a calendar reminder in my phone for 2 days before the end of the term so I remember to call them back.

Even when you cancel, they'll reach out again within a few months.

I only listen to talkshows, news, and live sports on satellite radio.

IHeart doesn't allow live sporting events.

Well, at least I know what to shoot for. I would do it for $5 a month. I can't remember exactly what these initial offers I've been getting are to sign up for when my free 3 month subscription runs out but I seemed to recall I raised my eye brows at their pricing....as in F THAT SH_T! I'm not going to d__k around with some salesperson, either.

Yes, but you can say this is not auto renewal, just a one time fee.

I was actually just thinking about this the other day. It's incredible how quickly satellite radio went from shaking up that industry to being quickly on their way out, or so it seems.

I remember when Sirius came flying out of the gate, signing big-name talk show hosts left and right, most notably Howard Stern. I just can't see that kind of things happening today. In today's media market, someone with big name recognition like Howard would probably be more likely to to do a Bill Simmons-type thing and start his own podcast network. I don't listen to his shows, but from what I understand, he only does a few new shows a week, and that type of schedule lends itself to podcasting anyway.

I briefly had Sirius/XM after purchasing a new vehicle that came with the receiver. The music channels didn't do much for me. I liked the idea of all of the sports talk channels, but many of them were often taken up by shows that still air on terrestrial radio (ESPN radio programming, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, etc.). I did enjoy the college sports-specific network, however, as that was all original content.

The thing that I ended up enjoying most was all of the out-of-town play-by-play calls for various sports, but that just wasn't enough for me to keep the subscription going beyond the trial period. They did make a compelling offer at one point (I think it was $24 for six month), and that was probably worth it, but I wasn't willing to run the risk of forgetting to cancel after six months and paying full price, even for just an extra month.

I find it ironic that a poster know for his incessant and relentless barrage of inane posts - is complaining about the relentless approach of a vendor.

About the sound quality: I use the Sirius AP on my phone/bluetooth. It seems to sound much fuller than the satellite signal. I assume the future the company will go that way almost exclusively.

But there are millions of cars out there with satellite radios and it's an easy one step process.... you know millions of people still use dial up.

Buried Treasures ... all day long.
