Mo's is going crazy What do you mean by that? Taylor's numbers are pretty much the same with or without Mobley in the starting lineup. His scoring is up by 2 pts and his rebounding is up by 0.1 per game. I'd attribute that more to the fact that he's taking more shots rather than to Mobley. ------------------
bad knees, LOL! That's the spirit. aelliot, I think you will find Mo is shooting well over 50%...since benching Walt. And note, it is incorrect math to say someone was scoring 11ppg at the 28 game mark and is shooting 13 ppg at the 68 game mark and say that he has adding 2 ppg. Correct math shows that 11 ppg over 28, and 14.5 (??) ppg over 40 will equal 13 ppg for 68. That's why you can see how Mobley increase 4 ppg, and Steve has actually increased over 2 ppg...since benching Walt. Team scoring is up 6 points in the last 40 over the first 28....since benching Walt Let's just leave it at that.

That's why you can see how Mobley increase 4 ppg, and Steve has actually increased over 2 ppg...since benching Walt. Sorry HP, but I don't agree with your calculations. Let's look at the raw numbers. If you look at these two box scores, you'll find that Mobley didn't move into the starting lineup until the 33rd game of the year. Game 32 vs Det 1/4/2001 (Mobley still not starting) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/boxscores/2001/01/04/hou_det/index.html Game 33 vs Utah 1/6/2001 (Mobley moved into the starting lineup) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/boxscores/2001/01/06/hou_uth/index.html So, there were 32 games played prior to Mobley moving into the lineup. Taylor played in 31 of those games and scored 369 points for an average of 11.9 pts/game. We've played 36 games since Mobley first moved into the starting lineup. Taylor played in 34 of those games and scored 486 points for an average of 14.3 pts/game. As you can see the difference in Taylors scoring is 2.4 pts/game, not 3.5 pts/game. Let's verify those numbers by using them to compute Taylor's season average. He's played 65 games (31+34) and scored 855 points (369 + 486) for an average of 13.15. Those totals exactly match Taylor's official stats, so I've got to believe that my calculations were indeed correct. ------------------
Aelliott, Thanks for running the Mo ppg numbers. But, please start with the Dallas game so we are consistent here. I've been keen to this move from the day Walt stopped being a 3rd Quarter starter (Golden State on 12/14). Now, run the FG% for Mo, as well, if you don't mind, and I believe we will see the big difference that I was talking about with my exaggerated statement ("Mo goes crazy"). Remember, Aelliott, my stats are not about Mobley starting. They are about ... "since benching Walt". Read this: <A HREF="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/010392.html">Is it official? Walt is benched, Cat is starting</A> Sorry, I'm not giving you the 2 point/15 min game Walt played on the 1/4/2000. As you can see in my 2 week summary in the link, Rudy was making a diplomatic move to bench Walt over time starting with 3rd Q benching, so he wouldn't get pissed. The Dallas game is what I consider to be the pre-planned benching of Walt. The official benching announced in the paper is different. I am simply talking about when we began starting 3 guards. My numbers are about when we went small. Official benching or not, we went small starting with the Dallas game. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited March 22, 2001).]
Thanks for running the Mo ppg numbers. But, please start with the Dallas game so we are consistent here. Now, run the FG% for Mo, as well, if you don't mind, and I believe we will see the big difference that I was talking about with my exaggerated statement ("Mo goes crazy"). Ok, I redid the numbers based on the Dallas game (12/30/2001), but they still don't back up your argument (in fact they hurt it). Prior to the Dallas game, Taylor played 27 games, scored 319 points and made 143 of 297 shots. That comes out to 11.8ppg and 48.15 fg%. After the Dallas game, Taylor played 38 games, scored 536 points and made 228 of 459 shots. That ends up at 14.1 ppg and 49.67 fg%. So, using the Dallas game instead of the Utah game actually reduced his scoring improvement by .1 ppg. The net is that since the Dallas game, Taylor's scoring has gone up 2.3ppg and his fg% has improved by 1.52%. You can't really call those improvements "going crazy" ------------------
Lets be honest. The Rockets have just been a better team................ SINCE BENCHING WALT I sure as hell feel more comfortable with his ass riding the pine. ------------------ "Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen" -Hudson
Cool thanks...I should add them above, later. I guess his "going crazy" doesn't really show up in the box score until he stops having to play center (which caused foul trouble). Too bad we can't look at his 1st quarter numbers or something. OK, so the stats say Mo' only contributes 2.4 more points once we went to 3 guards...since benching Walt. He goes crazy in the box scores later....look at the stats since the streak began. Anyway you want to slice it, anyone else want to join me in explaining the 6ppg turnaround by the team. 93 ppg to 99 ppg...since benching Walt. I don't think it is just jelling...I think it is jelling in a evolving 3-guard system that no longer needs Walt, since Mo' has that jumper.
OK, so the stats say Mo' only contributes 2.4 more points once we went to 3 guards...since benching Walt. He goes crazy in the box scores later....look at the stats since the streak began. This was the point. The key is "later". Taylor improved, but it apparently wasn't related to Walt being benched. At some point, he just learned his role and started playing better. Instead of the team improving when Walt was benched, maybe the team actually improved when Mo Taylor started getting more involved, which was not related to the Walt benching. I'd guess the pt differential stat would be even more noticable in this scenario... ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.

ShannaIMustDefendWalt... I ran the statistical numbers for fun to measure a significant system milestone (starting 3 guards), and chose the title for fun. You don't have to explain to me how stats can be twisted to prove anything. But...lol...I'd like to see you twist Walt's 38% shooting on OPEN SHOTS into something that has improved...since benching Walt! [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited March 22, 2001).]
