He's a free agent next season and his most recent game in place of DH shows his true potential! 4/7 shooting 10pt, 1 block, 2 steals and 18 rbs
I agree. He can play. Rebounds and blocks shots. When Deke leaves, we're going to need a back up center.
He is a Van Gundy (either one) mold player. Only a certain kind of team is going to covet him. Houston is not that team.
He might want to start. He'll be a perennial second stringer behind Dwight, he has some skills that a lot of teams want, I doubt he comes to Houston to be a second stringer behind Yao though.
This team is in desperate need of a long athletic 4/back up 5 who can play D, block shots, rebound and maybe hit 3s (RIP Eddie Griffin! I miss you!). When Yao goes out, we lose too much on defense; I'd like someone who can play alongside him or slide to the 5 when he sits. I like Gortac, also Warrick from Memphis. I say we go crazy over the summer and offer Toronto McGrady/Landry for Bosh. They might be paranoid about losing Bosh for nothing (like McGrady ) and bite on the deal. Or go really crazy, toss in Brooks and a pick for Calderon as well. Now that would be a stacked line up!
not sure if toronto's gonna give them up so easily, and i like landry and brooks, they're already contributing to the 2nd best team in the west while toronto is going lottery.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to sign some former failed high pick or defensive-minded player that can block shots and rebound the ball. You don't need a high-octane center when Yao isn't in, just someone that can hold down the forte and give Yao a break. Little surprised Adelman doesn't play Deke a bit more often though. I know he's 100, but still the guy can play and he plays better than anyone else subbing in for Yao.
The Rockets need a real PG more than they need this guy. He's going to be costly. The Rockets will fail if Yao goes down anyway so there is no reason to pour a chunk of change into his backup. A legit starting PG or solid wing player to replace Artest and/or Battier are both much more important.
On the Bosh thing, seems historically NBA title winners have 1 wing and 1 big rather than 2 bigs. I'd rather a good point guard to balance out the roster. Though I'm sure 2 bigs can work, could just be coincidence its like that. Rockets could use a 4/5 big with length in the Chuck Hayes spot. With the salary cap the way it is, probably expecting another cheap backup again. Coulda just got DeAndre Jordan instead of Dorsey no matter what the metrics said, and be done with it.
Good idea. Gortat has had experience playing behind a dominant center. Deke will retire, so we definitely will be in the market for a back up center. Splitting the MLE between Wafer and Gortat sounds like a fine idea.
