Yeah, because everyone knows that Clinton is the only politician that has ever lied. [IMG]

    Newbiehad,

Actually,he should resign for two reasons:

    • He is from California - Strike one!
    • He is a democrat - Strike two!

Unfortunately, someone has to be one or both of the above.

This is what makeTexas Republicans so much better!!!

Hey! This is not a thread about Clinton, or Democrats, or Republicans......

This is a thread about the expectations we have of our leaders. Carry on.

    Newbiehad,

Forget the political part and resigning issue.
    ---------------------------------------------

    My question is:

Why did he stall and hedge on questions about the affair? After seeing Clinton and other politicans having their affairs exposed, why did he think his would remain hidden after she turned up missing?

Resign only if he killed her or had her killed, then yes, he should think about resigning.

BTW, that Chandra girl is purty hot! I hope to heaven shes alive, but it don't look good!

Are you saying that we should dismiss the fact that Condit impeded a murder investigation, and the issue is only about the affair?

I wish I could answer that Mango, but anything I say would sound political. Not political as in party politics, but political as in my first response: he, as a politician, thinks he can get away with this type of behavior. Most all pols start at the local level and work there way up. On the way up, deals must be made, controversies covered, skeletons hid, and lies must be told. Such is the nature of politics. By the time they get to the national level, I'm sure they begin to feel invincible.

This all speculation on my part, but I think that is why he acted as he did.

The law says that he is required to cooperate fully so the murderer can be found quickly. He clearly violated the letter of the law.

Should our leaders be able to break the law and keep their jobs? I say no, but I guess I am in the minority on this one. [IMG]

Dude, I really have to question your definition of "purty hot":
Edited at the request of Pete Rose. See for yourself and decide if she is "purty hot".

I am not dismissing that angle, he has yet to be charged with such. Until he is charged with something in that area and the due process issues are worked out, its early to argue that point. Information may be unfolding this week that leads to an indictment of Condit in her disappearance and I will discuss it when it happens.

Her aunt's statements and Condit's belated admission are known items that can be discussed with some certainity.

ABC News is reporting that Levy's family is demanding that the Congressman take a lie detector test. I look forward to Condit's response.

My response to that would be that I'm not interested in participating in anything having to do with the voodoo science of lie detectors.

As for Condit, a generous explanation is that he didn't disclose everything about his relationship with Levy because he knew that neither he nor anyone close to him was involved, and those things weren't important to the investigation, in his opinion (add in the fact that disclosure likely hurts Condit at least on a PR front).

It's bad to lie to the police; however, if that's all he's done, then I don't think he should resign, especially since I can see a reason why he wouldn't want to disclose the depth of his relationship with Levy. It was a bad idea to not disclose (because when you don't tell the whole truth, it looks like you're trying to hide something and then nobody will believe that you've told the whole story even once you have).

If the voters in his district feel that his nondisclosure was bad enough, they'll vote him out next year. Until then or until he's found to have committed a larger crime, I don't think it's necessary for him to resign.

    Kingrene,

The topic of your thread is:

    Should Congressman Condit Resign?

If he has been slow to respond and at first denied the affair, do you really expect him to resign on an impediment charge that he has yet to be served with?

As I posted earlier, things might change by the end of the week and evidence could be stacked 10 ft high against him and he will hang it up.

Well Mango, I think he should resign. I believe that serving as a congressman is a great honor, and we should hold our leaders to the highest standards.

He should resign for both having an affair with an intern, and lying to the police.

Life is all about expectations. If we don't expect strong ethics from our politicians, we won't get them.

When have we ever expected strong ethics from our politicians? When have we ever held them to a higher standard?

I understand your views, but you are missing the reality of Condit and what happened.

Resigning is his action to take, not something we can do for him. If his recent actions (the affair and stalling on admitting it) are wrong, what makes you think that he will suddenly do the right thing on Tuesday morning and resign?

Wait a second. Aren't you the person who just reminded me what this thread is about? [IMG]

Anyway, I don't expect anything from Condit. After watching politicians through the 90s, I have stopped trying to predict their actions.
