    MATT CARROLL.

I was hoping houston would trade for him a few season back and completely forgot about him since he kind of faded....but he's got what we need and is still young enough to get his career jumpstarted again. He's only 29... hes a career 40% 3pt shooter...his FG % is bad, but i think that's due to his inconsistency in getting minutes and finding a role, etc. He's got a legit jumper where he can hit it consistently. He's got good size, decent handles...85% FT shooter...hid d could use work, but i think he's a good pickup and can be had a low price and may actually regain the form he had as a starter with the bobcats.

He's a mav right now...the only problem is his salary...he's making 5 mil now, but his contract actually decreases every year, he'll make 4.7 next season, then 4.3, and so on...he's got 3 years left with the 4th a player option..i'd rather have him than cook at that price...

Landry will extend his range to 3 next year, and Yao will shoot more perimeter J's off S/Rs to keep him fresher and counter the fronting defenses that's sure to be used more often against us. Hopefully that will give the Rockets better spacing and allow more room for our PGs and perhaps a talented wing or two to slash and create.

Wasn't Landry supposed to do that this year? I'll believe it when I see it.

I really can't see landry being succesful with that jumper that far, there's no reason for a defender to back off of him since he's not a threat to drive from there and that's just going to hurt his production since he'll be farther fromt he rim and covered. He was already suppose to come in with a 3point jumper this season as well as improved handles since that was his homework for the offseason as given by the team, but i think they realize it's not going to happen, not like they were hoping for..

Nah, this season, the team gave him and Harris the same homework this summer in hopes that they both could slide down to the 3 spot, especially harris since they liked him, but didn't have room for him at the 4.

I think he will be able to extend his range. His brother has a very similar build and can shoot from there.

Kevin Martin would be amazing in Houston. The guy has a class shooting touch (judging from 1 game i saw this year) .. and acc to Ron-Ron .. he is better than Reggie Miller ;)

but i don't think Sac town would let him go.. no way..

I am thinking if McGrady returns healthy (and that's a very big if), we may see more of the 3 point shooting lineup with Brooks/McGrady/Ron/Shane/Yao. One thing a healthy McGrady did well was rebouding as a wing, which might make it easier to sit good rebounders Scola/Landry/Hayes.

(At the very least, that line up works for me in NBA2K9.)

It's not a bad idea conceptually to get a 3 point shooting big to spread the floor... the trick is finding one that works with the rest of the group. Rashard Lewis, not a rebounder, works for Orlando because Dwight Howard is awesome at rebounding. Yao isn't, so I don' think that'll work. I also agree with Nike & co. that Murphy would not work due to being a bad defender. The only name I can think of that works well enough to be worth a shot is actually Rasheed Wallace. His overall rebounding number is lower than usual due to the fact that he never offensive rebounds. His D rebouding rate is actually decent enough. He's also a smart and good defender. But he is probably going to be too expensive.

How much do you think he'd fetch? He's an aging player, and his stock seemed pretty low after a dismal season for Detroit. And considering the economic conditions for a lot of teams, perhaps he could be had for a decent price.

i'm 100% sure it was in the chronicle, not sure if it was after the playoff loss or in the summer though, not sure if it was ever posted here, i would think so though, sounds like something someone would post.

We don't just need a shooter, we need one who knows how to get open, and I mean off-ball movement. It's useless if you are a great shooter who is always covered.

He said if he doesn't get $8 MM he'll retire. I think he might take less, maybe MLE money, but otherwise, he can realistically just retire. He's made a lot of money in his career and he strikes me as the type that wouldn't have squandered it all.

I'm thinking his UNC pals at Charlotte (Jordan and Brown) might give him the MLE.

Given luxury tax concerns, I doubt the Rockets spend MLE money on him unless they get some reduction in salary for next year during the offseason (probably by trading McGrady). Besides, they need a part of that to re-sign Wafer.

    durvasa, i found Harris' :

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/5885333.html

"We all discussed it; they wanted me to play three (small forward), to be able to guard (shooting guards) and things like that," Harris said. "This whole summer, I've only been working on the three and two positions.

"The coaches told me after the season the things I have to work on, slimming down, ball-handling, a lot of shooting. Play multiple positions, guarding twos and threes. The whole time I've been here, this whole summer, has been important"

I thought it was the same article for both, i guess landry's is on a different one, i'll try to find it..

Rasheed blows hot and cold. If he plays with a good attitude,he can help to some extent. However he isn't the type of guy who will look after Yao,which is a big red flag. Ron is crazy too,but he does try to take care of his teammates.
