Was just watching The best damn sports show and heard steven a smith talking about how the rockets are trying to get rasheed from portland. Giving up Cato and Griff, he didnt say much else so who knows!
Rasheed Wallace!!!! I just heard Stephen A. Smith on The Best Damn Sports Show say that Portland has been on the phone with the Rockets trying to get rid of Rasheed Wallace. They are trying to work on a deal involving Cato and (I forgot). Can anyone shed some light on this rumor??
Interesting... I guess it'll depend on the specifics to judge if I'd make that deal, BUT- Sheed is a talent. Further, I don't think he's realized his potential- and he's the type of guy that I think JVG may be able to get to buy into "his" system, like he did with Sprewell. Even more intriguing, Wallace only has one year left on his contract, which means it loosens up our cap situation even if he's a loose cannon. I think even if it's not Rasheed, based on the Spree, Houston, Eric Snow, and now Rasheed rumors, I think we're going to make some sort of move this summer.
I'd trade anyone but Cat, Steve and Yao for Rasheed. The dude is a top ten player in the league when he has his head on straight. Outside jumpers, inside game, rebounding, passing, defense. The guy has it all. Duncan and Garnett are the only two 4's that I would rank ahead of Wallace.
I think that we may be making a move in haste unfortunately. Unless we can land Rasheed or Jermaine O'Neal, I think we need to give these guys a chance under Van Gundy. Really, we have a very solid nucleus that grotesquely underperformed last year.
Getting Rasheed would be awesome. As NIKE said, I think JVG would be able to get a hold of Wallace. Man, that would be nice if we landed him.
while rasheed is definitely intriguing, he's not exactly a bruising rebounder/shot blocker to pair with yao, but he is an excellent shooter, can post anyone with his length, and is very athletic. however, what are we doing about the fact he's in the last year of his contract? if we're letting him walk, then don't get rid of good pieces just to free up cap room, unless we're going to free up a lot (as in not just get away from LT land but actually get under the cap significantly) and are really going after someone big. hmmm, elton brand anyone?. if we sign him, for how much? he makes i believe 17 or 18 million next year. is he gonna get a raise off of that, or since no one else can offer him more than the max would he settle for the max (like 11 million)? definitely took me by surprise when our name came up and the fact he mentioned no other team but the knicks, who would be trying to get rid of spree if they did the deal. key word there, get rid of. even mentioned how no one wants allan houston either.
If we get Rasheed, and his contract expires in '04 wouldnt that give us a legit shot at Brand or one of the other FA's next year??? Its intriguing because of the cap situation. I just HATE the guy with a passion!!! Complete and utter thugs-ville.
For cap purposes, yes. Otherwise, HELL NO! People talk about players like Webber being overrated, but look no further than Sheed if you TRULY want to see what an overrated player looks like.
Man with Sheed here, assuming our lineup would be Steve, Yao, Sheed, Cat and whoever...we'd have 4 guys in there who have hit countless game winning shots and who possess tons of clutch, we'd be damn good in the final seconds.
sheed is not overrated..........he's got allworld potential.....it would be a crime if we got him without giving up our stars.
While I agree that Sheed's got "allworld potential, " I just don't see him ever living up to it. He's just not focused enough, and I don't think JVG can help him.
If Blazers wants to do this deal, I would do this just for cap purposes as it is much more likely that we can obtain a big name player next season. Can someone post the list of players that will be free agents in 2004? I know Kobe and McGrady will be free agents in 2004. It might seem like a long shot, but when you have cap space, anything could happen. btw, Cato and Griffin straight up for Wallace won't work due to his high salary (17 million), thus I would gladly throw in Taylor to make it work. Keep rice, since his contract come off the book next year. If possible, I would also trade Moochie for Jeff McInnis since they earn about the same, can't be worse than Moochie (McInnis had a 14ppg and 6apg season in 01-02) and his contract also ends in a year's time. So essentially, Rockets trade Kelvin Cato 4.5ppg, 5.9rpg, 0.3apg Eddie Griffin 8.6ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.1apg Morris Taylor 8.4ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.0apg Moochie Norris 4.4ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.4apg Rockets receives Rasheed Wallace 18.1ppg, 7.4rpg, 2.1apg Jeff McInnis 5.8ppg, 1.3rpg, 2.3apg Trade outcome: -0.2ppg, -8.7rpg, -0.4ppg - Blazers trade Rasheed Wallace 18.1ppg, 7.4rpg, 2.1apg Jeff McInnis 5.8ppg, 1.3rpg, 2.3apg Blazers receives Kelvin Cato 4.5ppg, 5.9rpg, 0.3apg Eddie Griffin 8.6ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.1apg Morris Taylor 8.4ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.0apg Moochie Norris 4.4ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.4apg Trade outcome: +0.2ppg, +8.7rpg, +0.4ppg Rockets team for 03-04 PG Francis, McInnis SG Mobley, McInnis SF Posey, Rice, Nachbar PF Wallace, (sign anyone cheap) C Yao, Wallace This will help us free up to 30.6 million dollars in cap space in the 04 offseason, allowing us to be a BIG PLAYER in the free agent market by either resigning Wallace, or go after a big name free agent player (Kobe, McGrady etc). If they don't want Taylor or Moochie (understandable), Cato, Eddie, Rice for Wallace and scrub would be ok too, but I would like to keep Rice due to his expiring contract. I am no expert in how the salary matches etc, so feel free to correct any of my above trade proposal. -G'day-
I would love to have Rasheed Wallace, but if we get him we would have way too many offensive weapons especially since our team is soo selfish... If we were to trade for him I believe we would have to give up MOBLEY because francis and yao are untouchable. One of the three big scorers have to go.. otherwise we will be just like the blazers.. A world of talent but no chemistry
