I guess you guys didn't see the Blazer game in Arkansas. Collier played very well in the 2nd qtr. He actually outplayed Rasheed!!! He took the ball to the hole showed some quickness and intimidated Sheed, forcing him to take a couple of off balance shots.

He is a rookie for crying out loud. Only a handful of rookies ever make an impact their first season.

Perhaps we wouldn't have had a rookie 15th pick shooting game winners if we didn't have 11 TO's from Steve and Cat or Walt and Cat weren't a combined 2 of 10 from 3ville or Moochie wasn't 1-5 from the field or Cato would have had as many boards and blocks as Collier or if somebody D'd Duncan.

Is Danny Ferry now referred to as IceMan2........?

It's a TEAM game and the Rockets as a TEAM lost the game - not Jason Collier (or Cat or Steve or Walt or Cato) as an individual.

Cat, don't worry about Rocketman. Does the term "white stiffs" ring a bell?

It's not that collier misses shots, but its how he misses them. He is not even close most of the time. However thats not what really bothers me because everyone has a shooting slump once in a while. The thing that bothers me so much about Collier is that he is the slowest player I've ever seen. My mom is faster than him and she is 70 years old.

Speaking of Collier, here's Rudy's take on what happened Saturday night. I guess you guys know more than him too though right?

    Rough on Collier

In many ways, Saturday's game was one of the toughest of the preseason for Rockets first-round pick Jason Collier. He made just two of seven shots and missed two free throws in the last minute, opening the way for the Spurs to come back for a win.

But Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said he saw many positives in Collier's 17 minutes and was happy Collier got even a tough experience.

"Even though Jason doesn't feel real good about his experience at the line, I'm glad it happened now to go through it, to feel it," Tomjanovich said. "The next time will be easier. I thought he did some real good things out there. He had a good defensive stop and got the rebound, a couple real good rebounds down the stretch."

Still, Collier said he planned to spend extra time at the free-throw line today.

"I'm going to get a lot of free throws in during practice," Collier said. "I really wanted to make them. But it keeps me humble too and I need that once in a while.

"You want to go in there and impress people, especially the coaches. Unfortunately, we lose Hakeem (Olajuwon) for the rest of the preseason, so I will get some playing time. You have to stay up and be ready because you never know what is going to happen. You have to stay on your toes. It is a lot different from college when you're used to being in there all the time. Hopefully, in the beginning of the season I will get into a flow and rhythm."

Collier will never be as good as Croshere. To believe otherwise is foolish. The real question should be whether Collier will last in the NBA past one season or end up in Europe. Most observers will not require a full season to realize the answer to this question. If it looks like a mutt and it barks like a mutt, the overwhelming odds are that it's a mutt.

Collier could become a decent player with time. I don't think anybody here is claiming that he'll ever be an all-star.

I think we're hoping that he'll be able to stretch some defense.

I personally hate the fact that he was picked... but why in God's name would you want to cut him? If he *can* become a decent back-up center, why bothers? He certainly does more good ON the roster than he does OFF of it.

Accuse The Cat of bias if you want to... at least it's positive. Much better than this irrational hatred you show towards the poor player [IMG].

Give Collier a chance for God's sake. If he sucks after getting enough playing time to make a decision, and we can trade him for equal or greater value, then we should do it. But we need him right now, even if he sucks and won't get better. Dream is like porcelain in an antique shop on a fault line-he could break at any moment. Collier will keep defenses honest once his reputable shooting gets going, and he can help spread the defense by setting picks and drawing his defensive match outside.

Kidrock, who do you suggest we get in his place that's on the block, expendable, or available as a free-agent and better than Collier? The point of criticism is to be constructive. Without you aren't worth much around here because you can only b**** without really saying anything that's insightful or otherwise worth reading. So get it together or go see a shrink [IMG]

The Cat-So what? Rudy is obviously gonna stick up for his players... I'm glad to see that Collier wants to make his FT's... I guess we can't find any other first round picks who want to hit FT's... Wow, we unearthed a gem...

Exactly. You think Rudy is gonna say that he sucks on TV? He might have said it under his breath but he won't say it in the public. But he should say to the public that he screwed up and should have taken Q. Richardson in the draft instead of this Big Slob we have now.

Kidrock: Yes, many of us would have picked somebody else... but there's no point in bashing Collier for a mistake made by management. If you want to criticize Rudy... fine. But the viscious attacks on Collier are excessive and pretty pointless.

God, I just defended Jason "2nd round" Collier. [IMG]

If any of you seriously think Rudy feels this way now AFTER SOME PRESEASON GAMES and after that short a time frame that he knows Collier "sucks", I suggest you get on some medication.

    KidRock8,

What would you do with Richardson? Play him at small forward? He's 6'4" tall-not the 6'6" he's been listed at throughout college and the draft. Barkley played even further out of common sense by playing power forward at the same height, but he was a freak of nature.

So with Richardson, he'd play guard here. But we've got Francis, Moochie, Anderson and Mobley. I'd rather have Boseman than Richardson because he's a better filler player-cheap and able and willing to play garbage minutes. Richardson would be a pine-rider in Houston, and that would be a waste of talent and money. Compare what Richardson makes with that of Boseman and see what the better choice was: sign a scrub guard, or Richardson. If you think about it, the first option is the better one IMHO.

Now with Pryzbilla, I don't know. He hasn't done crap in the preseason either, and has absolutely no offense. His defense is going for blocks, which means a lot of fouls. Jim McIllvane could kick his ass. In fact, look for Pryzbilla to be a comparable player to McIllvane in the future.

The GM position is a tough job. Draft decisions have a couple factors, including but not limited to team needs and the best talent available. I thought we'd draft Jerome Moiso because I knew he'd be available at number 9, he's 6'10" and plays small forward. Even though I see him as a Carlos Rogers type player with maybe a little better jumper, that would have been my pick because Iperceive our weakness to be at the three spot. Even though I am an avid Walt Williams supporter, having a long three that can play better defense would have been nice.

Remember that coaches and GMs know more than you and I because they see more than you and I, have more experience, err, actually HAVE experience, and their jobs are ultimately on the line. So when you get all hot and bothered about Collier or Langhi-anybody who you'd rather have-remember that the powers that be know a little bit more than you do...or me for that matter.

So chill out on Collier. Your useless banter does nothing productive.

Richardson would be a pine rider in Houston?
Are you sick? If Richardson was here he would
start at the 3. He is not 6'4 Richardson is 6'6. Walt would become a bench rider. Just look at this lineup: Cato,Taylor,Richardson,Anderson,Francis,6th
man Mobley. That lineup is scary if you ask me.

Pass1st-Once again, pay attention to this thread... I didn't say Q. Richardson in any of my posts in my short tenure here... It was Lil Francis who wanted Q...

I said I wanted Pryz... I'll take a defensive center over a soft C who allegedly can shoot... We've had enough Pete Chilcutt's, Mirsad Turckan's, and Richard Petruska's finding ways to make this team...

Collier will be an IR for life...

I hope you can read this message and notice that I want Pryzbilla... You know, Joel Pryzbilla, the #9 pick we gave to the Bucks? Get it through your head... I hope the third time is the charm for you...

Pass1st-Obviously, you didn't read my previous post where I displayed that Pryzbilla's stats far outweigh Collier's (one of the few times Collier is outweighed)...

You would have seen that Pryz PER 48 mins avereged twice the rebounds, and about 10 times more blocked shots than Collier...

Sure, his offense is limited, but I'd rather have our backup C go 0 for 0 from the field than 2 for 7, and bricking 2 FT's with the game on the line...

Please don't bring up his days at IU and GT...
