Shareef Abdur-Rahim has let the Grizzlies know he wants to leave, and would willingly accept a trade, anywhere. He would fit in perfectly with the Rockets and fills their need for a scorer, rebounder at the 3. A trade possibility would be to send Vancouver(Memphis) the 13th, 18th, Kelvin Cato(anything to rid of him is appreciated), and Shandon Anderson(possibly in sign-and-trade scenario). That would give the Rockets immediate help and would still allow them to pluck a big man with the 22nd selection. Sounds good to me. ------------------ If I don't say so, it ain't queso.
A trade possibility would be to send Vancouver(Memphis) the 13th, 18th, Kelvin Cato(anything to rid of him is appreciated), and Shandon Anderson(possibly in sign-and-trade scenario). -QuesoMan what makes you think that Shanndon is willing to go to Vancouver? ------------------ Yes I'm new here
First of all, Vancouver will be Memphis next year. Secondly, Shandon's skills could flourish on a team like the Grizzlies where he(yes, he) would be viewed as a leader, having more experience than the other guys. Maybe he would sign a one year deal, boost his stats with the Grizz, and look to make big money the next summer. ------------------ If I don't say so, it ain't queso.
First of all, I know the Grizz is moving to Memphis but they're still the Grizzlies. Secondly, Shandon would NOT be viewed as a leader in any team in the league. Don't get me wrong, Shanndon is one of my favorit players in the league but people just won't consider him as a leader of a team. he's a perfect(and maybe one of the best) role player that a championship team always needs. not to say that the Grizz already have Dickerson and Shanndon will come off the bench if he goes there. "Maybe he would sign a one year deal, boost his stats with the Grizz, and look to make big money the next summer." -QuesoMan Nooooooooooo way!!! that's what he did two years ago when he signed w/ the Rockets and it won't happen again. ------------------ Yes I'm new here
Cato (BYC) + SA = SAR isn't even close capwise unless the Grizz S&T SA for $5M - $7M. Dead issue. ------------------ GATER
I think Cato and the 13th, 18th might be enough to pull off that trade. However, with such a deep draft, is that what we want to do? Still, I'd love to see SAR in a Rox uni. ------------------ Gascon
How about a package that could include Cato, Walt, the 22nd and 13th picks. Walt is in his last year and would give them some cap relief next year while helping to fill a void at the 3 that will be left when SAR leaves. Cato gives them a young shot blocking athletic center. The 22nd and 13th picks in the draft give them more first rounders to help shore up their roster in a deep draft and also gives them a pick to satisfy the pick they owe to Detroit. SAR gives us a legitement superstar at the three with the height and athleticism to go up against any 3 in the league and dominate. The 18th pick might still get us a shot at a Brandon Haywood type of center to replace Olajuwan and Cato. And we should still have enough cap space to go after C-Webb. That would give us a starting five that looks something like this: 1. Francis 2. Mobley 3. Raheem 4. Webber 5. Haywood any thoughts on this scenario and this lineup? ------------------
Here is anouther thought on SAR. Send Walt, Bull and Collier plus the 18th pick to the Grizz for SAR. This gives the Grizz two small forwards to take up the slack when SAR is gone and one young center to push Big Country for playing time. The beauty of this deal is that the Grizz get 3 first round draft picks. The 7th and 27th to help shore up their teams needs and the 18th to satisfy their obligation to Detroit. Next year when Walt and Bulls contracts expire the Grizz will loose about 10 mil off of their payroll and can be a major player in free agency. If Collier does not work out they are only obligated to him for two years. We still have the same advantages as the first scenario. 1. Francis/Mooche 2. Cat/Francis 3. SAR/Langhi 4. Webber/Thomas/Draft Pick Michael Bradley or Ken Johnson Maybe 5. Branden Haywood/Cato ------------------
there's just no way i think we can afford both webber AND SAF, common be realistic now. ------------------
In the scenario that I just mentioned we are trading SAR for a group of players that together equall his salery. Now please explain why we could not afford both SAR and C-Webb. SAR's salary is about 10 mil. Bull, Walt and Collier total salary equall a little over 11 mil. With this deal we get SAR and have just as much cap room left over to go after C-Webb as before. ------------------
yes your scenario might work, but the NBA isnt peaches and cream. you think vancouver will trade SAF for 3 dudes warming up and get fat on the bench? the only thing they're probably interested in is our draft picks and that aint gonna be enough to get SAF. get real. ------------------
Hows this for realistic. SAR (not SAF) wants out of Memphis. The Grizz want cap space. The Grizz would like to move SAR (not SAF). They are not going to get a superstar from any other team in the NBA. How many teams can offer 10 mil in cap releif next year an a high first round draft pick. Hell I would even make it the 13th pick instead of the 18th pick, that would give them two lottery picks and still give us a shot a Haywood and Johnson. ------------------
SAR aint comin to houston, end of discussion. stop just picking any good player and say they're coming to houston. quit dreaming. oh i hear kobe is coming to the rockets next season. [This message has been edited by RocketKid (edited May 25, 2001).]
ok, I'll give it a shot. Matt Bullard is a free agent, so throw him out of the melting pot. Also, it's worth noting, that next offseason is their backcourt's contract year (Bibby and Dickerson), so even if they wipe 8-9 million off in the form of Reef after Collier (while taking on a good 3-5 mill in picks), they're not likely to be too have much room to wiggle. If you throw Cato into the deal to take Bull's place? Fuggetaboutit. Would you want about 23 million tied up in THREE underachieving centers? Anyhow SAR is supposedly warming up to Memphis. If you replace 18 with 13, what do they give Detroit? #13? Personally, the guy I'd shoot for is Stromile Swift. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
Are you kidding!? I'd do flips to get that guy here. If we drafted a quality big man, like Ken Johnson, who is Cato plus heart, plus work ethic, minus the headaches, then we would have a front line of Mo, Shareef, and Ken Johnson, or get a decent big man in FA. That could get us about 25 to 27 boards a game from up front, get us some low post scorers, and give us a proven scoring threat in the low post, and cause matchup problems to teams like the Lakers and Spurs. I'd LOVE to get Rahim here! ------------------ See the three, be the three.
Your probably right SAR aint comin to Houston. But guess what? I don't think QuesoMan intended you to think that he had some sort of inside info when he started this thread and I certainly don't have any inside info. It is however, a well known fact that SAR wants out and the Grizz have shown an interest in trading him. I am simply saying that I would like to see him here and there are possibilities. Having said that I seriously doubt that Rudy T is going to read this thread or any other thread on this post and go "damn, why didn't I think of that?". But since we are here in part to discuss possible draft selections, trades and other roster moves we do. Or maybe I should say I do. As far as Kobe leaving L.A. why don't you find a quote from Kobe printed anywhere that say's he wants to leave L.A. Show me anywhere where Phil has made Kobe available for trade. Has L.A. even considered a trade offer for Kobe? No you say? Then why try to compare trading for Kobe the same as trading for SAR! The Grizz have openly entertained trade offers for SAR. I would love to see SAR in a Houston uniform but the chances of that are slim. But it is not the same as saying lets go get Shaq or Kobe. ------------------
Hydra - If the Rockets are under the cap for this proposed trade, then why do they have to renounce virtually all expired contracts to be able to sign Webber outright? The trading period is far after the draft. I believe the Rockets are cap bound until they renounce players on expired contracts. ------------------ GATER
Hey RocketKid, SAR almost came here a few months ago, why couldn't he come here now!? ------------------ See the three, be the three.
Since we will be under the cap, the salaries do not need to match. ------------------ Liberals favor using artificial means to alter the normal to a state which facilitates and justifies how irresponsible they want to be
I think one reason SAR would want to come to Houston is that he has already played under a Rudy-T coached team (Sydney Olympics). I heard that most players really liked him after they returned from the Games, so there is no reason why SAR wouldn't. He would also get more support from his team mates, going from Bibby and Mike-D in the backcourt to Franchise and Cat. And with the possibility of playing with Webber and Dream, the only reason I see him not coming is that he wouldn't get enough touches. Although the chances of us getting SAR are substantially less than us getting Webber, it could be done if the right players, draft picks or even a 3rd team gets involved. ------------------ http://titansmania.50megs.com Larry Burns: "Boy, this guy's loaded.
