I didn't see this anywhere (including the game thread) but am sorry if this has been posted. Anyone else hear Bill's comment last night about what Battier told him on the plane? Basically that JVG was the best tactician for whom he has ever played. That is a pretty impressive comment when you consider Coach K, Hubie Brown, and Mike Fratello are all considered good to great coaches. Obviously Shane just said tactician and not overall coach (like McGrady has and I think Jon Barry...but maybe he also just said tactician?). At the least, JVG seems to be loved by high IQ players (TMac, Barry and Battier can all be called that) so I consider that pretty good for him. I can't remember if Yao Ming has ever really said anything.
Mac said coach from what I remember. Barry said the same I'm pretty sure. Tactician is a new one to me, but it fits.
I'm honestly more impressed by comments from ex-players. I mean, if I were the rox bball, I'm sure Battier would say: "dayum, heypartner is the sexiest bball that I've ever played with."
No, it isn't. Tactician is only strategy. Coach involves motivation, counseling, etc.. And, yes, McGrady said coach but that wasn't as impressive because he had mostly sucky coaches before JVG. heyp - nobody would call you the sexiest anything. Booooo!
I love Battier, and I like Van Gundy. But praise by one of those guys for the other is like a couple of authors blurbing each other's books. Take with salt, much.

Guys, I put a smiley there for a reason, I saw Rimmy's post..... I just figured it would be expected of me to come in and say that stuff...so I obliged.... No offense intended. And to be completely fair, I did catch the comment and thought it was a very good thing for Battier to say.....and speaks volumes about what Shane thinks of JVG as a coach. DD
I think many of us are reading far too much into Battier's comments. For all you know, it could be a fully sincere comment from him. Just take the words literally OK.
