He had two outstanding bounce passes in fastbreak traffic...one as an outlet...then the great one to Francis that RR mentions for a layup.

Anyone who has every attempted an overhand long bounce pass knows, they are not as easy as they look. You must compensate for the spin that is generated off the hard bounce. If you don't, it usually bounces much lower than the receiver is ready for.

Awesome Shandon! Steady improvement of the fastbreak is a good thing.

    Heypartner,
I have attempted many a skip-pass.....or an overhead long bounce pass as you call it. Normally, if you don't throw it right, the ball dies and bounces very low.

Shandon's was beautiful! It is rare to see that type of pass thrown that successfully.

yeah, I don't know where the name "skip" came from, but I always thought it was about the spin causing it to skip low. Tendency when throwing any ball overhand is to put a lot of backspin on it, which is like slicing a ball in any racquet sport. The ball will hug the court.

"Skip" comes from whether or not the player who threw the pass threw it successfully. If so, they skip to the other end in glee.
If not, coach pulls player and spends the rest of the half yelling and muttering words under his breath like "damn showboat" and "rather look pretty and lose than look boring and win."

At any rate, I have always had more success throwing a skip pass if I bend and get lower to the court. The angle that it hits the hardwood has a lot to do with it as well.

Thanks for changing the title of the thread.

"Shandon's Passing" didn't send the right image.

I'm glad to see his play is improving, and i hope we keep him well beyond this year.
