The free-agent class at small forward -- Bruce Bowen, Devean George, Matt Harpring (a restricted free agent), Donyell Marshall, Walter McCarty, Tyrone Nesby, Scott Padgett, Rodney Rogers and Bryon Russell -

Of this group of LESS than superstars. . .

Devean George actually intrigues me most
    Then Nesby and worse Rogers.

I think he could come cheap too.

The Lakers have been described as Shaq, Bryant, Horry, Fox, and bunch of CBA players. Devean fits that description.

    I like Lee Nailon.

I too like Nesby. In the Wiz games I watched this year, he hustled. Nesby will probably want more than the Rocks can offer (a portion of the MCE). His expiring contract was about $3m.

We have been known to win championships with cba players. Now with George & Ming, that would be 2 cba players. :D

If we can get Bowen, then I would be for drafting Ming.

Devean shoots about 25% on layups.

Hell, even Walton said that Phil Jackson had basically given up on George. I looks absolutely lost out there running around grinning like an idiot always a step and half late on the play and committing stupid fouls to try and make up for it. No thanks.

Bowen has a player option but the contract value is small. The Spurs have a ton of cap room next summer. My guess is they'll reward his loyalty.

the pick immediately after the Rockets selected Kenny Thomas, the Lakers selected George. It had been rumored that West liked Thomas, and would have selected him had he been there.

For the record, George has a lot going for him and I'd love for the Rockets to pick him up at a bargan basement price. Physically, he kinda reminds me of Bobby Joe Reid, in that he's definately a perimiter type player, but he's also got quite a bit of 'beef' to his frame. Also, given West's track record of selecting talent, I think there must be something there.

I'd perhaps look to another former West 'bust' who actually developed into a pretty good player down the line in George Lynch has perhaps the model for George.

Certanly I'm not trying to imply that he's as good as Reid or Lynch, but I think there are some similarities there. I wouldn't put it past him to be in a role-player/starter role for some team in about three years.

"Devean George is a good player, but..."
-Bill Walton in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals

I laughed when I heard that. Devean George looks completely lost out on the court on defense, and that's bad when you have no offensive game either.

    George is horrible.

I'm a semi-Lakers fan, and he probably wouldn't get more than 10 mins a game for any other team. It's just that LA has no viable SG/SF backup.

He would be lucky to log more than 5 minutes with us next year.

During those Lakers runs in games 4 and 5, it looked like George was always one to freak it up with some turnover, stupid foul or crazy shot.

He takes stupid shots. He gets burned on defense. He has an ugly face. And he sucks.

There was an article on TSN.com saying that George will probably be lured by another team with a payday contract just becuase he's on the Lakers. Deveany also said he's no better than the 7th or 8th man.

I think Stan Deveany is too generous...

Besides, the Rockets aren't ones to salivate third rate players just because they were on championship teams. I hope.

This is a joke right?

This guy has a tough time already making layups.....and why is it that he smiles so damn much.
Damn near after every foul called on him, every missed layup, or after he doesn't follow through on the team rotation playing defense, etc.

We already have enough scrubs on this team.......don't need another.

    Please noooooooo GEORGE!!

    Another awefull idea

If we come out of this offseason with Ming and Lewis/Odom, without losing our core, we can return to greatness soon

    OK ALREADY!!!

    I GET IT :D

I had seem him a few times. . . make a few plays
There was NO scientific backing of it. . . just
observation of a few games. . . .[maybe because they
were against the rockets he had such a good game]

    Devean George . .. OUT!!
Like someone said. . . he would have to come cheap anyway

If we didn't have Tmo he might be a player worth going after with a better offensive game than tmo but much worse D. I don't think it's a lack of motivation, it's just that he doesn't have good technique or doesn't know good technique what so ever.

I liked the game where Lindsey HUnter was playing absolutely horrible basketball, then Geroge came in the game, managed to play even worse and Walton says: "Devean George is making Hunter look like John Stockton out there"
