My point was that being out of the country at Oxford sure was convenient for him, considering that reportedly his draft number was called. I do believe that by the time his number was up, merely being a college student wouldn't exempt you. Being out of the country in school certainly privileged him more than Joe Schmo from Arkansas going to UA. That guy had to put his classes on hold to return a year later, should he live that long. Of course...we all know that it is only the Republicans who used daddy to join the Guard, right? Is that what is being insinuated here? If so...that's just ludicrous. EDIT: What exactly did you mean by disenfranchised? I certainly hope we aren't going to that stale, old card AGAIN.
That was a joke from: Wasn't it funny? by the way, my daddy was a wus and joined the guard, and his family consisted of a bunch of wealthy southern democrats. Of course noone wants their children to die... it's just that rich people get to do something about it. Intelligent people such as Clinton get to do something about it too.... but that's besides the point. Republicans labeled Clinton a draft dodger as an indictment on his moral character. And then they vote for someone AWOL from the pansy ass Guard. Idiocy? Hypocrisy?
Refman, if there was a draft exemption that applied to overseas college students and not students attending in America, please enlighten me. I had no idea that was the case and until I read otherwise, I sincerely doubt it was. Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar, he was admitted to Oxford (difficult for anyone, but especially for a poor, unconnected kid from Arkansas) and nothing sinister has ever been suggested about that fact. I think you just got this one wrong. If you want to hate Clinton because of your relatives' experience with him, I've got no problem with it. But hate him for that. Don't call him a draft dodger (which he wasn't) and support a guy who didn't fulfill the requirements even of the safe harbor assignment his dad secured for him.
http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/P/bc42/about/clintonbio.htm I must post a partial retraction. It seems that President Clinton did not have his number come up. The misinformation on the other side is that he was at Oxford at the time. This was not true. He was in Arkansas. He enrolled in the ROTC at the law school which gave him a high draft number. For those who are unfamiliar...at the time, enrolling in the ROTC was another common way of getting around the draft system. The Guard was one way...ROTC seemingly was another. I apologize for any misinformation on my part. I did some research to correct any misinformation gleaned on both sides through years of botched reporting, etc.
