I recognize that your ire is, for some reason, aimed my direction - but I don't believe I've ever invalidated your feelings nor told you the proper way to act - unless you think reminding you (all) that the sun will come out tomorrow is an example of either an/or both? I do question the *depth* of the reaction - I think calling this "embarrassing" is missing the boat in a big way (and very talk radio) - but offering a counter to that is, well - isn't that why we're here? Do you just want a bunch of people sitting at their computers nodding quietly in agreement? Don't we all want other informed opinions, perspectives, ideas to help better shape our own?

(And FWIW, I genuinely LOL'ed at the Oiler/Buffalo comment... then quietly wept...)

That might be, but then this thread seems like a random place to go off on a rant about the topic. For example, this post:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=10021104&postcount=283

Leroy is saying how he feels, and then you respond by telling people not to tell you how to feel - something he never did. Here, you seem to be doing exactly what you say you don't like - mocking people who approach the season differently than you:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=10020109&postcount=271

Well, the key was people saying they themselves were enjoying it rather than telling someone else that they were wrong to be upset.

Certainly - absolutely not. But the thinking then that was Strasburg (and Harper) was a future star of their team and he would get plenty of postseason opportunities with him, so mismanaging his innings and shutting him down that year was no big deal. I don't think it's played out that way at all, and Strasburg may not be on the team the next time they make the postseason.

This is dumber than the "bigger fan" argument and sorry I played any part in it. Go Astros.

Yep, and scored their first run. Maybe J.D. Martinez and Brad Ausmus will help us out next week

I will say this: if they do end up blowing this... the lack of urgency they showed in addressing glaring offensive woes will leave a bad taste, especially since it looks like they may have had the answers in-house. The Carter/Gattis/Valbuena trio makes this a little difficult to digest.

Understandable, but the offense hasn't really been the primary culprit of this collapse - they haven't been great, but not terrible either. It's really all about the bullpen being unable to hold leads. We have 8 losses already this month where the pitcher of record is one of our bullpen guys (mostly Harris or Neshek). Comparatively, we had 3 all of last month.

what about the offense last month? the offense is the cause of all of this. who cares who picks up the loss if the offense doesn't score runs and leaves a thousand men in scoring position every game?

our putrid offense is to blame for this.

I'm not sure the numbers now, but as of a week or so ago, the offense was actually scoring more runs in September than their season average.

Its the offensive road woes that have lead to this. They have had a horrible record on the road for 3 months and it is due to the everyday lineup.

They win just a couple of more road series in the past two months, they are not in this situation

After they completed their hot start... and before September... this team was still only at or slightly below .500 for a really big chunk of the season (including being just abysmal on the road).

Its not a stretch to consider the multitude of factors that have led to this collapse... still disappointing, but there's several areas that were going to need major improvement collapse or not (and if anything, this finish won't end up clouding those improvements from happening.... which is something that could have possibly been the case if all was "good" and they were sailing into the playoffs in a weak division).

This is what posters don't understand

It really hasn't been a collapse per se, but rather a 3 month erosion that was magnified by playing .200 ball on the road.

They have been under .500 longer than over it

I agree with you... but its also been a collapse.

To counter-act being abysmal on the road, they were ultra-hot at home. I expected both of them to level out at some point... however only one of them did.

The way they've lost some of these games this month have been particularly troubling... either they've gotten horrible starting pitching, horrible bullpen relief work, or a complete lack of timely hitting. Not to mention some fielding woes and basepath woes.

No it has been a collapse. Had they played .500% in September they would still be in first place.

I think that we need to go 7 and 2 to make the playoffs.

We are missing Hamels and Lewis in this next series, but our problem is not who we are facing, as we lose to EVERYONE. Look at our last 2 series, Doubront and Tropeano? Those are 2 games you MUST win, we did not.

Are we capable of going 7 and 2?

We've been tied or had the lead in the 7th inning or later in eight of our fourteen losses this month.

If the bullpen only regresses to "league average" instead of "historically terrible" this month, then we've already locked up a playoff spot most likely.

Sure, it's fun to point out situational hitting and pick on Hinch for decisions he makes, but the rest of our team has put us in position to win these critical games. The bullpen, the same bullpen that got us where we are in the first place, has made this an impossible situation.
