Its only p-pat's second year. I seriously believe he can improve his game in the next year or two. But yes I do agree we should sell high on dragic, he has pretty much reached his ceiling. Plus I want us to clear up our pg and sf spots to make room for morris or twill to play... yes I hope we trade chase before the deadline as well.

Motiejunas has a higher ceiling than Pat; he's more skilled in the paint and he's a true 7-footer. I would probably consider including Pat as a sweetener to a trade if only so that Motiejunas does not wind up in the same situation as Morris next season.

Between last year and this year, Patterson apparently lost his leaping ability. He plays too small.

I hope its because he's still recovering from his surgery.

    a few things:

    1) if you are gonna sell "high" on anyone, it's probably Lowry, since he has by far the most value on our team and has probably reached his potential. In fact, Paterson's value has actually decined after a lackluster start following a great rookie season. Agreed that Pat probably won't be an allstar, but he'll be a quality 4 in this league, and his value can only increase going forward. He's sure to be much better, and more valuable next year, so he's not an ideall "sell high" candidate.

    2) why does everything have to come back to T-Will. Backup pg? Can we just get over the fact that he's not going to see any meaningful court time and is not part of our future?

    3) Dragic, on the other hand, is absolutely someone we have to trade (assuming we keep Lowry) because he will walk for nothing after the season. He certainly has as much, if not more, value than Battier did this time last year, so there's no reason why we couldn't at least get a 1st rounder from a playoff contending team, like we did from Memphis last year. To me, trading Dragic is a no-brianer.

    4) The player i think we most have to trade is Kevin Martin. He is not likely to recoup his lost value, as he is having a bad season. He's not likely to turn it around either. But teams know how good the guy is in the right system, and because he's only got a year left on his contract, i think he'd fetch a nice price on the open market.

We should be looking to move Martin and Dragic at the trade deadline.

No disrespect intended but to me this is where fan expectations just get silly.

Help me understand exactly why a team should be inclined to attribute more value to a backup point guard than your team has been willing to ascribe to him?

Dragic is not good enough to make a major impact on the Houston Rockets who in turn, haven't made a major impact on the NBA in quite some time.

But pay no attention to that, because all evidence to the contrary, this kid is the backcourt solution for a playoff contending team and in turn worthy of a sizeable investment which comes in the form of a number one pick.

Oh by the way, the kid's is so darn good and has left such a lasting impression on us, that we weren't even thinking of re-signing him, so here you go mister playoff contending team, our backup point guard on an expiring contract, now may we please have your number one pick?

If that's how a portion of Rocket fans think successful franchises operate then no wonder some of you are struggling to understand why the Rockets haven't made more progress.

    Major disconnect.

Um ...dude, you are the one with the disconnect. PGs are in demand right now. Dragic is good enough to start on other teams, just not Houston because Kyle Lowry is having a career year. And btw, i disagree that Dragic has not made an impact for Houston this year. He most certainly has. In fact, he's one of the most productive players, per minute, on our team. I don't know how you can know for certain that Houston has no interest in brining him back; but if that is the case, it's not because we don't think he's good. It might be that we are overloaded in the backcourt, or trying to bring Llull over, or money, etc. A team that is a PG away from solidifying themselves in the playoffs would have a strong interest in him, especially with his versitility as a 2. If we got a future 1st rounder for Battier last year, we can get a future 1st rounder for Dragic. Late 1st rounders are not as precious as you are making them out to be. It's not a fantastical prognostication. It's more than possible.

I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand like you are saying.

Ppat-Can someone tell me what he does well? He can shoot a jumper, I guess, but that's not what I want out of a PF. His rebounding is awful, his can't get to the free throw line, and his FG% is 47%. If this is because of the injury, then we should trade him NOW if people still value him. We don't know if he will return to last year's form. And what did he do well last year? All I can find is shoot his jumper. That's a good skill to have but it's cooled off. Trade now, he's not a starter on a contending team.

Dragic-We need to trade him, but only because he's gone at the end of the season. He should have value for teams needing a PG. Trade him unless Lowry is leaving.

Scola-Trade him if we can get something valuable for him. He probably is not valued much around the league and we don't want to pay him for the next few years if he's on the decline.

Lowry-I can go either way with him. If we can get a star player then yes. People can say Lowry is an all-star caliber PG but he's not until he's actually made the all-star game. He's probably our most valuable piece and could be replaced by Dragic (if we trade Lowry then keep Dragic).

09ers-They aren't doing anything for us. Trade them all, except maybe Hill (unless he gets some value). He looks decent as a backup PF in the league.

Martin-Not sure what to do with him. If we could get a big who can score down low then I'd love to keep Martin. It could be Gasol, Kaman, Jefferson, whoever. I think the board really underrates Martin's scoring and overrates his difficulties on defense. If we trade Martin then we need to get back someone who can average 20+ a night. Having a new PF that helps protect the paint will cover up much of Martin's D problems. Plus, his defense seems to be better this year (a little).

Bud-He has value as a scorer off the bench. He plays better against backups in the league, so keep him as a backup. Can we get value for him? If so, then he can go, but don't just throw him in a trade to match salaries.

I would trade Martin for a young big man. I would keep K Klow and trade Goran. Trade Patterson if it's a good deal.

Patterson isn't known well enough around the league to "sell high" right now.

See but this is classic homer thinking. PG's are not especially in demand because all but about 3 or 4 teams already have one and in most cases just like the Rockets, already have two.

You've talked yourself into believing how other teams should perceive the value of Rocket players and ignored the obvious reality, which is that a player like Dragic isn't capable of cracking the Rockets starting line-up, a team that most years can't make the play-offs and may not make it this year.

Dragic wasn't good enough to be the heir apparent for Steve Nash and now he isn't good enough to start in Houston either. Face it, he was brought in to be a backup point guard because that's what he is.

Backup point guards are not generally going to be worth first round draft picks until they cease to be backup point guards.

Especially a two-time fallout which is what Dragic is now.

And if a team really, really liked him, at this stage why wouldn't they just wait a few months for his contract to expire rather than rewarding the Rockets with a high draft pick before they let the guy walk?

You have to start by recognizing that Martin needs to go to a team that needs a starting 2 guard because he's too expensive a resource to come off of some team's bench. Possibly Minnesota or Utah or maybe even Indiana might be reasonable trading partners.

I wouldn't be inclined to give the Rockets a star powered "big" for Martin. Maybe a young 3 with star power potential. Martin is approaching mid to late prime for a guard and he can't defend very well. He's still a lethal scorer and that has to be respected. I think the Rockets can bring back some value for Martin with the right trade partner.

this is not the moment to trade Patterson. we need him as backup PF fot the rest of the season, unless a big trade is on the table like getting an all star
the next season is another question, because donatas is comming but pat bring a lot of solution with a cheap 2 more years contract
    will see

If you're talking about "selling high," then you have to presume that the player is as good as they are going to get and more likely to regress or level out in the coming years. The only people who seem to fit that bill are Kyle Lowry and Courtney Lee. They both are playing above their contract status or face value, which is precisely why most fans would prefer to keep them and deal the other guys. I don't think Dragic has peaked, but his contract status gives more reason to try to trade him. However, I doubt anyone is forking over a 1st round pick of any value for a 2-month rental of Dragic. Of the playoff contenders, there aren't too many that would see Dragic as an upgrade. The Lakers could use a PG, but I think they're aiming higher (like Lowry or Rondo). The Heat don't have great PGs, but they don't really need one and they don't have any trade assets.

    You are wrong.
Lowry was always a game-changer even when he was a backup to Brooks.
Don't you remember how many times he would come in with the 2nd unit and wreak havoc against other teams?
Lowry is not an all-star technically but does impact the game at an all-star level in terms of translating to wins.
Ppat does not have the mentality to take that next step. I think that 1.5 yrs is enough to realize that he is who he is. He is not suddenly going to develop an aggression to finishing strong in the paint or develop rebounding instincts. This year, some teams might have the same illusion you have in thinking that he's only been in the league a short time and that he has room to grow.
I am quite certain that this is not the case.
Buying/selling is always about realizing and being able to capitalize on things half a step ahead of everyone else.
Morey seems to have that ability. The players that he's liked usually turn out to be really good players.
    Rubio, Cousins, Gortat, etc.

I dont see PPat's level as being 'high'... give him another year...

Dragic - ship him... get something now or nothing at the end of the year...

KMart - ship him, we've already held him too long - send him to the fuher now before he loses all value... and we can use sme of the moey to re-sign CLee...

Bud - may have some value coming off the dunk competetion - at least some name recognition... ship him now...

Scola - might already be too late...

Lowry - only for a top level pg...

Morris - hold - value too low and will rise...

Parsons - no urgency - cheap contract = solid role player...
