so you are defending people 'wishing' death upon the president?

    for what? obamacare?

george w. bush is a treasonous war criminal who violated the constitution and his oath of office. his lies resulted in the deaths of thousands of our troops and the deaths of tens of thousands (conservative estimate) of totally innocent iraqi men women and children.

even though i believe he will burn in hell, i dont wish for his death. i do think he should be arrested and put on trial, but i wouldnt outright call for his death.

the irony is that it was people like basso who claimed those who criticized bush were anti-american, anti-troop and seditious. was it not basso who always accused people who criticized bush of wanting america to fail or wishing for troops deaths?

it was bad to criticize the president b/c we were at war and it emboldened our enemies and demoralized the troops.

are we not still at war? how does criticizing obama not embolden our enemies and demoralize our troops? what exactly has changed since 2008?

It was a dumb argument then, and it is equally so now.

Like Clinton, I support the right of members of the Tea Party to organize and demonstrate, make their political views known, and try to make affect change. But political movements should also be cautious on what directions it channels the anger of its participants. Like most any political movement, it can be healthy for the country or dangerous. That in itself should not be taken as an argument to suppress it, obviously. Those who are motivated more by politics than truth will of course see it differently.

Yeah, where would we get the idea that some extremist might try something crazy?

Isn't this kind of silly? This is just a group of people expressing their displeasure over the president and "wishing death" is just a low form of vernacular to do that... or do you think that they, like the children they certainly must be, believe that wishes come true?

The "wish" in this case was a prayer to their God (usually when you start off with "Dear God" and end with "Amen", that's a prayer, right?).

Do people who are probably fundamentalist Christians think their prayers may be answered? You tell me.

Maybe it was meant to be a joke. But its hard to know sometimes with the level of religious extremism in this country.

The funniest thing about this, of course, is that basso is complaining about Obama and Clinton doing something that neither or them did... But that basso (and Bush) did do, over and over and over again. It's like stealing someone's wallet every day for eight years and then accusing them of stealing yours.

Just when you thought he'd hit the ceiling of hypocrisy, he finds another level. Well done, basso. Well done.

can't be a tea bagger then, since everyone knows there are no minorities in the tea party.

maybe he was there to protect The Won from all the crazy white folx?

Another non-substantive reply in your own thread.

I agree with this. Wishing death upon the president is for most people just a way of voicing displeasure, much like the joke about shooting Bud Adams twice. I don't think it's a good idea, because there is a minority of people who do see violence as an acceptable option and making jokes about violence can (1) encourage the kooks and (2) associate you with the kooks. I think most of the people just haven't thought about the consequences of their actions and say foolish things. It's probably a good thing critics will take them at their word and reproach them for the foolish things they say. Perhaps some of the bad behaviors and their effects can be curbed.

I assume you feel the same way when Khamenei and Ahmadinejad say "Death to America!", right?

I agree with this too. I've made plenty of jokes about wishing people dead. It doesn't mean anything.

The Tea Party movement (and the GOP as well) generally is a different story. Both groups use dishonest arguments in a willful attempt to whip up anger to be used to their benefit. It's no surprise, in the face of that, that so many elected officials have been receiving death threats and rocks through their windows. That stuff is seriously dangerous. The facebook thing is just a lame joke.

You are a small-minded person who plagiarize others while running around posting "Link?" in response to people who actually possess their own opinions.

The irony being that you have not yet posted a link to back up your opening statement: "Obama has declared dissent unpatriotic, and in fact, borderline seditions"

You are truly a lemming among men.

No. Those guys were influential leaders in their country-- not some voter at a street protest. They actually had some power.

I'm not going to bother to count them, but 1/3rd to 1/2 of the posts on that FB group are critical... could be more. Who knows? I looked at a small sample...

its pretty clear to me based on the rhetoric out there that they do.

i can only imagine what the outrage would have been from the fox newses and the bassos out there if the tables were turned.

he was just "joking". a "low form of vernacular", if you will.

or do you think that TSchmal, like the child he certainly must be, believes that wish come true?
