Inspired by the other thread. I like to say that I'm smart and always wear my seatbelt, but I catch myself not wearing it often, especially on city streets. Despite all the preaching in that thread, I don't think I'm alone either.
It's a habit of mine to wear it when I'm driving or sitting in the passenger seat. Rarely ever wear it in the back though.
LOL @ all people who don't know INERTIA. Why? Is there a difference? You will be thrown around if the car rolls regardless of your position inside the car.
I always do. If not . . . it is yet another reason to be hassled by cops. considering getting pulled over by cops and escalation to a Tazing or maybe a shooting . . . .I would rather not take my chances. Rocket River
Rarely. Never when I'm alone but I will sometimes when I'm in the car with the gf. Strangely, I felt the overwhelming need to wear it this weekend on our little day trip. I don't even put mine on when I see cops anymore. I used to scramble to get it on but now I don't care. I'll pay the fine I guess.
Always wear it in my car, because the car would beep at me. Always do in my wife's car because she yells at me. When I had my truck I hardly ever wore it. I have a strong fear that a seatbelt will be the death of me one day.
I don't wear mine very often, mostly due to bad habit. Im always rummaging around the vehicle for something and the seatbelt makes it very difficult to reach around. Around here, many smaller communities post the monthly percentage of people who do wear their seatbelts. Its always in the mid 90's. Im not sure how they determine that actual number, but looking around myself, everyone has one on.
If the car's going at speed, the backseat's just as dangerous as the front. And you unbuckled folks become a danger the buckled ones in the front. You shouldn't even notice a properly adjusted seatbelt. That said...I always wear it when I'm driving, or in a friend's car. I rarely wear it when in a cab. Makes no sense -- as the cabbies are more reckless drivers. I should rethink that.
Wow. Out of all you peeps offering some explanations... only finals wears it ALL THE TIME?!?!? I guess just you and me, madam. IT'S A LAW NOW, PEOPLE. ABIDE. Dave_78, since you have money to spare, how about using it to lure a good free agent for our Rockets?
It's just plain dumb to not wear a seatbelt. Of course, thousands take up smoking every day, so I suppose it's just population control.
Luckily, I have not had to pay in quite some time. I suppose if I got nailed two or three times within a few months it might change my mind.
My girlfriend says this too. Of course, she also talks about how much she loves riding on motorcycles. I don't have the numbers but I would be willing to bet my life expectancy is much, much higher than someone driving the same amount of miles I do on a motorcycle. That's my whole point. All the do-gooders in here crying about the rest of us who don't wear our safety belts need to check themselves. We all do "stupid" things every single day but nobody complains about what other adults do with their bodies until the seat belt issue comes up.
^ Until we talk about all those other things that you think are "stupid", then you can say "You guys do that, too!" but, for now... we're talking about a VERY EASY thing to do to (a) avoid a ticket and (b) avoid dying soon. Just CLICK IT, man! Why is this so hard (which reminds me...) That's what SHE said.
What would you "always" be rummaging around for while you are in motion that a seatbelt would prevent you from getting?
always wear my seat belt. and i think everyone else should too, but they shouldn't be punished for it if they don't.
All the time. 100% of the time when I'm in the front. Rarely in the back. I don't care if I'm only driving half a mile down the road. I won't drive either if the front passenger refused to put one on. They can be cool in someone else's car. IMO people who don't wear one are ****ing stupid, no offense. A good friend of mine never wears one and drives like a f'n maniac.
Always. Why wouldn't you take such a simple precaution to protect yourself during the most dangerous and common activity most of us engage in. And if you're a parent you really have no excuse not to be wearing your seatbelt. I remember right after my niece was born, my ex-sister in law ranting about how she wasn't going to let the government tell her what to do and refused to wear a seat belt. I thought she was mentally ill. I was right.
