I think I understand the roster issues now. EG is not on the official roster list whereas Padgett is. So Padgett can play but EG can't. EG can only get back to the roster when we cut Ben Davis. So now what happens if we extend loser EG's contract?
Yes, and look at the huge success he's enjoyed. He's 6'9 and 240 - that much weight on that type of frame means he's too slow to play SF in the league. Anyway, ESPN lists him as a PF, so I go by that as well.
Not our 3's, but rather, our 2's. I know that JVG mentioned that he believes the 2 and the ae generally interchangeable, but I still hope this was just lip service, knowing Cat was on the team. We have Cat, Pike, JJ, A-Griff, and Steve all able to log minutes at the 2. Pike and JJ and Griff can also log time at the 3, but we have Nachbar as well. Cat has definitely been set up for a trade, should the opportunity arise. Probably wouldn't happen until Pike and A-Griff are off the injured list and Eddie quits taking target practice at his "girlfriend".
Nothing. The extension is for 2004-05 & 2005-06. Padgett probably has a one year deal for the vet minimum.
heck yeah. I remember those. Chilcutt was wearing the shades. They had the journal for the 1994 playoff run with Bullard. I think it was called Bull's Eye.
I don't remember the quote exactly but didn't JVG say something like "If your not Yao and can't hit an open shot you won't play on this team", I know thats not it but its close. Padgett can hit and open shot and we need a replacement for "The Fugitive".
I really like what CD and JVG are doing here. They are surrounding Francis and Yao with the right complimentary pieces, achieving the right mix of youth with veteran experience and leadership, and the hard working role players every team needs to win. If all things click as they should, we are probably a 4 away from being contenders. We just know that the team is being built under JVG's blueprint. I mean, look back at our supporting pieces in the past few years: Oscar Torres, Hawkins, TMO, Shandn Andersn ... probably our last GOOD role player was Bull. You know, I said I was going to enter this season with the lowest of expectations to avoid setting myself up to another disappointment, but man, on paper we really ARE looking pretty good. Now if only Griffin could get his act together...
Looks like the JVG has brought Scott Padgett in to take the team and put it on his broad shoulders and carry us to the promise land.
I think the signing of Padget is great for the Rockets. He wont demand the ball and has a nice touch from the outside. Van Gundy is very quietly putting together a team much like the '94 Championship season. A talented big man, and a cast of complementary, seasoned role players. ESPN, or no one else for that matter is giving us much respect because we didn't sign a "Big Name" player, but we did sign a bunch of "good" players that will trust JVG's system and play hard and SMART! This my friends will benefit the Rockets much greater than if we had signed just one player with all our cap room. I know CD is happy that he finally has a coach who knows talent when he sees it. Unlike Rudy. (See "Moochie Norris"). Have faith because the Rockets are going to make the "Big Splash" in our record this season, and not in some high priced athlete. GO ROCKETS!
